winterset
Just wanted to start a new topic for BBF's pulsating brakes. I had a similiar issue with my wife's Horrible Honda Accord she had when we were dating. anyway, I couldn't figure it out. brake componants were 100%. driging on highway was as smooth as a Honda can be. BUT when I stepped on the brakes, the brakes will shutter. as it turns out, (execuse me, as I don't know the part names), there was a diagonal bar that connected to near the caliper to the front frame of the car. on the honda, the 2 bolts that connected it to the frame vibrated loose or something. once tightened, all was OK. I just looked at my 1996 Deville, and we have something similiar, although it's a 1inch thick bar that's connected into the front of the car frame with a big rubber bushing. not sure if you checked/changed that bushing. - hope this helps. (BBF, not sure if this is the sway bar you mentioned in the "transmission post", but if it is, and you only replaced one side, replace the other, and see if it helps. My wife's Honda had an issue on just one side, but it felt like the whole braking system was causing the whole car to shake. Also, now I have a question. when I was looking at this, I noticed there is a part that's wraped with something that looks like a serpentine belt - what's is this?, and should the serpantine piece be loose? BodybyFisher
I think you are speaking about the strut rods and the strut rod bushings. I have replaced mine twice since I own my car, most recently with poly, now both sides. Given how cheap rotors are, I am going to try a set, maybe mine are damaged. I can argue it both ways, yes I should replace them and NO, I have interchanged two sets of rotors and get the same problem.. So I don't know. Over the years of this PIA problem, I have considered that it might be coming from the rear and my rear knuckle was contributing to it due to the looseness. I am not sure what you mean about the part that is wrapped in a serp belt, where is that? Thanks for keeping an eye on my problem and trying to help, Mike Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
