friesianlover87
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and I'm sorry if this seems rude to just come here and start requesting things right off the bat but I'm almost certainly buying a cadillac tomorrow it is a 1993 seville sts but because I am very short on cash (young single mom here) I would really like to make sure there isn't going to be any problems insuring this car or anything like that, I would like to get a VIN car report, I was hoping someone here might be kind enough to get it for me if they have an account with carfax?? I need this pretty quickly because like I said, I'm buying this car tomorrow! The VIN is 1G6KY5295PU830795 and my email address is robinnamur@gmail.com i understand if this request cannot be met but i just thought theres no hurt in asking. Thanks all :-)
Cadillac Jim
The VIN is that of a 1993 STS, I can verify that. I did a free VIN check on checkmycar.com and it came up with one record after hopping over to autocheck.com. That's only possible if this is a one-owner car and the one owner paid cash for it. Even so, there should be two "hits," one for filing the Certificate of Origin when the car was received at the dealership and one for the registration to the first owner. For $25.00 on a credit card you can get the VIN history report. Do a web search on "VIN check." You may be able to get some data from a GM dealer with the VIN number, such as the service history at the dealer. Most dealers don't have body shops, except as separate operations, so body work won't show up. If this car is being sold through any GM dealer, they should give you that information for the asking (but I would expect for a car more than 5 years old they sell wholesale out to independents who can't get that data themselves). Ask your insurance agent for help for a free VIN check; many of them provide that service. I did a free check on carfax.com and turned up 16 records. CarFAX will give you a full report on one car for $25.00. I would recommend that you do that yourself, AND you have a mechanic look at the car. CarFAX will let you know the car's past (without 100% reliability!) but a mechanic can give you a good idea of the car's current condition and its probable future. I would never buy a used car without a mechanic that I trusted looking it over, including a test drive by my mechanic. Things to check are the coolant (for age and for combustion byproducts), a look at the oil, transmission fluid, and brake fluid, under-car inspection of the brakes, exhaust system, flaky body repairs or rust damage, etc. You can look under the hood and in the trunk. Pull up the carpet in the trunk and look at the spare tire. You can ask the seller to let you finish checking out the car. If they say no to that, walk away. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. I did have my brother who is very familier with cars and his/my mechanic friend go look at the car, its about 3 hours away so I have only seen pictures of it. It is a very good price because it needs the current engine taken out and a good one (which is provided with the car) put in. Both my brother and the mechanic said this car is worth every penny and if I don't buy it, they will. The only thing that concerns me is that, why did the original motor sieze? Is this a common thing with this car or was it in a major accident. The other thing is that it needs a mechanical inspection because of a missing side mirror. I would hate to buy this car if there was a lien on it or anything like that, so thats why I want the report and if I have to I will pay the 25$ to get it, I just thought if someone had an account already they could possibly do it for me :-) Thanks again for the response. Cadillac Jim
You can't test drive this car. You can't run the engine you will be using, nor do you know it's history. I see lots of red flags. It may well be a very good deal but be careful. Get the KBB price from their web page and make sure that you pay a lot less, because it's not a together, running car. Who is going to assemble it? -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. friesianlover87
My brothers friend who is my mechanic he works from his house, he will put the engine in. They looked over the "good" engine that it comes with and all looks fine, he checked the car over and they did start the car up but it has a knock. So the car plus the engine all for 2000$ seems alright, my mechanic has worked on a 1994 cadillac a couple years back, and same story didnt come with a working engine but this guy paid like 3000$ for it plus he had to go out and buy an engine when it was all said and done it cost him around 6000$, so i think i've got a pretty good deal here...? your makin me nervous tho lol
BodybyFisher
This is probably known by your mechanic but MAKE SURE that you get the correct engine there is a Y and a 9 engine. You NEED to make sure its the correct engine, do no assume that they know this... Logan
Long story.. There were 2 different engines in '93. The 4.6L Northstar, and the Cadillac classic 4.9L. I think all '93 STS's had the 4.6L Northstar. My '93 Seville (non STS) had the 4.9L version. 2 completely different engines. Nothing, nothing, interchanges. So the engine sitting on the ground, needs to be the Northstar 4.6 L and not simply a 4.9L engine. Make sense? Thanks for clarifying my thinking Logan, I forget about 93 sharing the 4.9 and 4.6 and that its not the Y and 9 Northstars. The engine decision is actually easier in 93 than it is in 94.
