Ranger
It is not separate. There is an elastomer bond between them that has likely failed.

Thanks kev Mine wobbles also on my 96. Not sure if its serious. Can this affect oil pump operation?, not sure but doubtful. Does this create vibration at higher RPM?, probably. KHE
It is not a hard job to R&R the balancer. You will need to lower the subframe on the passenger side - remove the right front tire and the splash shield panel. Support the subframe on the right side with a floor jack, remove the three bolts and lower the subframe enough to access the bolt. Install a flywheel lock tool on the flywheel, remove the bolt and use a 3-jaw puller to remove the balancer. When installing the new balancer, apply some engine oil to the portion that contacts the front cover seal. You MUST follow the torque spec. in the manual exactly or you will not have oil pressure upon startup. There is an initial static torque spec. and then the bolt must be tightened an additional 120 degrees. Just use a grease pencil or paint marker to mark the bolt with one of the spokes and tighten the bolt until the mark lines up with the next spoke on the balancer. Mine was wobbling too, replaced it and got to use my Kent Moore factory flywheel tool. Probably put it on e-bay now.
