iwanta2000caddy
Hey everyone, I am new to the caddy realm, I have my heart set on one right now but something is not adding up I am buying the car off the internet (private seller), they claim it is an STS but.. there is no foglights! it looks like it has a SLS bumper. I have yet to get he VIN. can someone please advise whether 2000 STS's had *optional* foglights? It was my understanding that there were standard thank you in advance! -Dave
JasonA
Dave, get the VIN. If it's an STS, the 8th character of the VIN will be a "9". If it's an SLS, the 8th character will be a "Y". All STS models had the fog light front fascia. Depending on model year, it was also optional on the SLS, but every single STS had the fog lights. It's possible that the car was in an accident before and the front fascia was replaced with one from an SLS. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?" steve6
You'd think even if the fascia was changed that the Light Switch would still have the fog light button there though... Check for it, it should be obvious. This is what I'm talking about, on the left where the light switch is, the toggle switch for the fog lights is there. http://v3rn.dyndns.org/sts2/sts004.JPG
JasonA
Yes, good call (steve6). The image title indicates that that car is a 2004 STS, but it's not, unless the steering wheel was changed. That's a 98-00 steering wheel. I am steering way clear of this particular car/seller, it seems that it is being misrepresented it more than one way. thanks for the advice folks lemons are always on the net, this appears to be one of them. Are there any other physical distinguishing features that separate an STS from an SLS?
iwanta2000caddy
in regards to the steering wheel: is this one from a later model? or from a 1998?
JasonA
in regards to the steering wheel: is this one from a later model? or from a 1998? That's an earlier steering wheel, 98-00. Here's a picture of a 2001-and-later steering wheel: http://photos.jnjhome.net/displayimage.php...um=28&pos=7 The 98-00 wheels do not have the cruise control functions on the spokes in the 4:00 and 6:00 positions. If you zoom into my picture (click the photo to zoom), you can see the cruise control buttons down there. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?" That is a pic of my car, I was not refering to the steering wheel in any way, just the Fog Light toggle switch =) The picture is labelled 004, cause its 004 in the set. JasonA
The picture is labelled 004, cause its 004 in the set. Oh -- my mistake! I thought it said STS2004.jpg. It really does say STS004.jpg. Never mind me... Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?"

JohnnyG
I'd say that's a '98 STS wheel. My '99 has an all leather wheel (no wood) and an all leather shifter. But the biggest difference may be in the cruise controls as someone pointed out. I can only speak for the 1999 STS - Stalk mounted cruise controls, on the right side of the wheel, on a seperate stalk by itself. If you look closely, you'll see that these are not cruise control buttons on the wheel. The two on the left are the TEMP and FAN speed buttons, as in my '99. The two on the right should be the radio volume (up & down) and the radio (or disc) channel (track) up & down. These two cannot be plainly seen in the photo though. I can't get your picture Jason, it won't load for me. Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.
JasonA
I can't get your picture Jason, it won't load for me. Hmm... I can't see it either. Seems the bulletin board software truncated the path. Here's the actual image. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?" iwanta2000caddy
so basically, steering wheels were wood and leather from 98-mid 99, and then in 2000 they went to all leather and from 2001-2003 back to wood and leather? rofsts
Regarding wood or leather steering wheels, remember in '99 at least and probably others the wood came with option "N30 Wood trim package, includes wood steering wheel and wood shift knob" MSRP $595. I think that is correct for all the 98-04 Sevilles. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?"
iwanta2000caddy
excellent thanks for the helpful responses, my 2000 doesn't have either the wood on steering wheel or shifter - so I know it doesn't have the upgraded wood package
