RALWES
My Deville 2000 cruise control will not turn on. When I depress the cruise on button on the right of the stearing wheel the light comes on but goes off when I release the cruise on button the cruise control will not activate. I have taken a paper clip and wedged it beside the cruise on button the lighr stays on and the cruise works okay. Any Ideas on what needs to be fixed? Ranger
Not sure without looking at the FSM. If you don't have one, that is where I'd start. It will have all you need to know. Ebay is your friend.

Ranger
Ah, the B0429 code. I think they all have that one. Neither has anything to do with CC.

Logan
Not everything out there will have a code stored. Some is common sense. This sounds like a simple switch latch failure. The CC switch is not latching to 'on' mode. If the switch is held in with a pin, CC works. Maybe new CC on/off switch? Simple as that is all that is needed to fix this. Cadillac Jim
The P0420 is a cat code. WarrenJ
Where my car is concerned, changing out that stalk is a piece-a-cake! I could do it on a smoke break with time left over! In your case, however, it's a be-eye-itch! I have the 2000 stalk replacement instructions in Windows.Doc format, but this forum doesn't accept that format for upload. PM me with an e-mail address if you'd like the instructions. Regards, Warren There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. Logan
His CC is not on the turn signal stalk. It is a on/off button on the steering wheel. koushka
I have the same problem, it is most definitely a switch related solution. When you press it it is supposed to stay depressed with the light on. I don't have the manuals to "gently" get the steering wheel apart.
