Suped Up Eldo

Recommended Posts

I am looking to make my eldo faster. I've been thinking about a cold air intake or a preformance chip only im having a hard time finding any that will fit or work with my system. I put my eldo in alot of car shows and I wanna move it out of stock into modified but every idea I have I either can't find or just wont work. I am planning on putting a full cat back exaust on it and getting a cold air intake custom made. I saw a 97 eldo just like mine with a jet prototype preformance chip but I cant find any info on it. Have anyone you suped up your caddies in anyway that I might be able to as well.

The reason you can't find anything is because there isn't anything. You already have a CAI. Just follow the intake ducting. Besides, the intake air cools the PCM.

Our old Guru (A GM powertrain engineer) told us that they left nothing on the table when designing the Northstar, all the low hanging fruit was picked. The factory did it for you.

The air filter was designed to flow all the air the Northstar can eat at WOT. It it not restrictive. The TB is the choke point. A larger TB and exhaust is about all you can do to get any gains. The exhaust choke point is the crossover pipe under the egine. Nothing you can do about that.

Both of those items perform extremely well at what they where designed for, transferring money from your pocket to theirs. They are unadulterated absolute scams, not to mention trash. There is really not much you can do to a Northstar. As I said, the factory has done it for you. If you want to mod, Mustang or some of the rice burners may be a better choice.

Well, there is this one guy who is working on new PCM calibrations for the production Northstar configurations :welcomesmiley:

and as I understand it he is taking orders :ups: for PCMs for some years

I am curious how a PCM from an LS1 16 valve engine would be adapted to interface with a 32 valve engine. Keep in mind that the PCM controls virtually everything in the car via black box interfaces and if you change the PCM and get it to work, nothing else will work.

AJ has been around a long time on the other forum, and he's got a lot of software installed in member's cars, with seemingly positive results so far. (Hi AJ, I'm "jadcock" on the other forum.)

I can't remember, but who was the person who added a supercharger to their Northstar and got some impressive numbers at the track???? I remember they had quite a lot of moving things under the hood, but they did it.

That was Mark_99STS and he last made this statement:

The car was turbocharged in February 2006. On the dyno it puts down 383hp at the wheels and 417 ft lbs of torque. Thats about 525 at the crank

Speaking of tuning and chips, I just purchased a new PROM which I'm sending to Fastchip for reprogramming.

Thats cool MAC, this is only possible with OBDI systems is that correct? I just went to fastchips site, what do they do for the 4.6, I dont see anything on their site about what they can do

I have to order it and I must provide the PROM. The chip will remove speed limiter and adjust shift points, including points below the 1500rpm range, timing, and number of other things. I believe OBDII can be tunned but the entire PCM must be sent out for reprogramming.
