cadi4me
The rear of my vehicle sags and the air compressor doesnt bring the car back to level. I am curious as to whether this means I need new struts/shocks or if my compressor is bad. I am new to this site and am no mechanic by any means. All help is appreciated. Thanks

I am curious as to whether this means I need new struts/shocks or if my compressor is bad. I am new to this site and am no mechanic by any means. All help is appreciated. Thanks Its hard to say from here. First check for computer codes that might be set, if you do not know how to do that let us know. Then, sit in a quiet area with the door open and turn the key on and listen for the compressor to start and run for about 20 seconds. If you don't hear the compressor running, check the compressor fuses. cadi4me
As far as any check engine codes or things of that nature when I had autozone run a check nothing came back. Would the fuses for this issue be in the trunk or in the fuse panel in the engine compartment. Thanks for the reply
Cadillac Jim
Most generic code readers will only check the engine codes that are emissions related, and will come back with no codes unless the "Check Engine" light is on. Your car has at least 10 computers that are all networked together, not just the engine control. To get them all, including the body codes that reflect your car's computer diagnosis of the leveling system, see http://www.caddyinfo.com/readingcodes.html -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. winterset
Did you have rear work done recently? You should be able to peek at the rear shocks & verify that the black air line leading to the shock is nice & snug, and not hanging off.
cadi4me
In regards to pulling the codes, is this something that autozone can do through there diagnostic machine or do I have to take it to the dealership? If no codes come up does that likely mean I need new shocks/struts. Thanks for the replies.
Bruce Nunnally
Your car has onboard diagnostics which has several capabilities, including showing any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Please follow the link Jim gave and report back any codes you have current or in history and someone will help you translate them. BodybyFisher
While you have some other interesting codes, the one code that sprung out at me with regard to the compressor was the last one: C1738 - Exhaust Solenoid Valve Short to GND That code is related to your compressor, you need to look it over, check for blown fuses, if you don't have your owners manual from the glove compartment you can download one here, in it you will be able to find the FUSE CHART http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/resources-cad.html#om Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
