Marcus815
Hey Guys, With my GPS kit I got a small mount for the air vent. I didn't like the idea of putting weight and stress on the vent, but I figured I'd give it a shot to see how it worked/looked. In the process of putting the clips on the vent one of them slipped and hit the flap on the inside of the vent causing it to snap off and fall out of the line up that the other flaps are in. Now, it's not a big deal. I mean, it's the vent all the way on the right hand side and it doesn't effect the air flow at all, but I'd rather have it in proper order instead of somewhat broken. Luckily, my favorite junk yard has two almost identical Seville's as mine both with all four air vents intact if I do recall correctly, and by looking at them It looks like I can take any air vent from any of the four slots (Right hand air vent, two in the middle and the one on the left). I'm assuming that the horizontal and vertical flaps are all inside of a rectangular like box. I can't really explain it well, but all I need to know is how do I get to the air vent on the car and remove the broken unit and install the one from the Seville at the yard? Thanks, Marcus
BodybyFisher
Use a very thin (credit card thickness or less) 1" wide putty knife, slide it in on the side to dislodge the clips, it will pop out, as you gently pull it out, don't force it, keep in mind that the putty knife will only go in so far. BE GENTLE Put the knife on the side of the vent, the vent comes out as an assembly... Marcus815
Well, I just spent 30-45 minutes playing around with the thing and I can't figure out how to get it out. I ran a knife along the bottom edges of it and it did nothing. It's nearly impossible to get it on the inner side edges because it's such a tight spot, and it is impossible to get anything in between the wood and black plastic lining. When you gave me that info you were referring to this type of air vent I believe?...
BodybyFisher
OK, its not the bottom its the side. The finish is really good, it does not look like there is a space, its a tight fit. a KNIFE is too thick WAY too thick and dull, you need a sharp edge to help you slip the blade in because its so tight. I noted it has to be as THIN or THINNER than a credit card. If you have a stainless steel 6 inch rule, its perfect. Remember its a tight fit. The Yankees are on or I would take a photo of what it looks like OUT. I won't kid you, its tricky, but once you see how it comes out, you will understand. Just keep in mind that its tight, and you need to get your very THIN blade between the housing and the rounded edge. Report back your results I just took out all four vents in August when I replaced my AC actuator, see this thread there are some photos of the vent holes... http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?sho...amp;hl=actuator Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
Marcus815
I see what you're talking about. It is indeed a tight fit. I'll give it a shot tomorrow when I venture out to see if my nose run's in the sunlight I'm afraid this job will call for my mother's fine silverware though

WarrenJ
Mike's method sounds easiest, but absent a machinists ruler you might try the factory procedure: Instrument Panel (I/P) Air Outlet Vent Replacement Removal Procedure Important Do not damage the air outlet deflector surface. Use a thin-bladed tool (1) in order to remove the 4 air outlet deflectors from the front of the instrument panel. Release the tab on the inboard side of the deflectors between the deflector and deflector housing, while pulling the air outlet deflectors out. Marcus815
All done. Real simple and straight forward once you figure out that you have to pull those tabs out rather than push in. Thanks for the help guys.
