My '06 DTS Is In The Shop

Coming back from vacation last Saturday, stopped at Cracker Barrle to eat lunch. The parking assist beeped at me when I parked. As it should.

Upon leaving, while driving through the parking lot to get back on the freeway... DING, DING, DING. Looked at the DIC... SERVICE PARKING ASSIST. Stopped...put it in PARK..killed the motor for a few seconds..started back up, and as soon as I put it in DRIVE...DING, DING, DING.. SERVICE PARKING ASSIST.

OK.. will take it to the dealer when I get home.

A few miles down the road, Darling Wife of 40 years says... "Call OnStar, have them run diagnostics on it." (She thinks it's neat that they can talk to us thru the car.) :D

Pushed the blue button..5 seconds later they answered. The girl ran the diagnostics but couldn't fix it. She thansferred me to the next level.

The guy there did the same thing, and tried to reset it remotely. Didn't work. He then called my dealer and made an appointment for me to take it in.

The few times I have used OnStar, I have ALWAYS received very good service from them. Even tho it is expensive, I will renew the OnStar service when my free year runs out, which is in December. I like the once a month diagnostics they e-mail to you also.

They called yesterday, and had to keep it overnight. Waiting on a part.

I am driving a 2008 SRX for a loaner. Will write a review of it as soon as I get time. It is nice and I like it better than I thought I would.

Hopefully they get it out quickly. I am interested to hear your impressions on the 08 SRX.

I would also like to hear what went wrong with the parking assist, if they had to replace a individual sensor or ?

Parking assist should be a minor issue to fix I have it on the 07 Nice feature with the front & rear the 01 I had had it only on the rear bumper which made it easy to park the 07 makes it a little easier to park you don't have to worry about bumpimg the front bumper I only issue I had on the 01 one wall at where I work is a light gray color brick the sensors did not work rite on that wall I backed into to it on that wall I didn't do any damage the sensors just can't pick up on that wall Next week I'll try the 07 on that wall Let us know how you like the srx

Got it back today. The right front sensor had shorted out for some reason. They replaced it and repositioned the AC duct for the back of the drivers seat. The seat cushion cooled real well, but the seat back didn't.

It does now. :D

I really like the park assist. I am kinda short....5'7" and the way the hood slopes... I can't see the end of it. The beeper keeps me from bumping things when space is tight. I do not want any scratches on the White Lightning paint. You could never touch it up to match.

I will try to get a review of the 2008 SRX up tonight or tomorrow.

Jim,

Sounds like you are about as particular as I am about my cars. :D:D It's my Cadillac and I want it to be as near perfect as possible. A little flaw like that would run me nuts... (some say I am already there) ... till it was fixed.

You may want to think about getting the 3M clear plastic put on the front of them. If the paint chips can be touched up REAL WELL... where they are not noticeable... you may save the cost of having it repainted. Paint ain't cheap, especially compared to plastic.

Just came back from a 4000 mile trip. Heard things hit it several times. NO DINGS in the paint. YET. :D The plastic also makes it a little easier to clean off dead bugs. :D It wouldn't protect you from a big ROCK, but small stones and gravel typically kicked up by traffic, it seems to be doing a good job.

Met my brother, sister-in-law and my Mom yesterday evening for dinner. As he walked by my DTS, going to his Esclalade, he said... "Where is that plastic you have been talking about?" He was standing by the right front wheel and couldn't see it till he ran his hand across the paint and felt the edge of it. "Oh, THERE it is." I thought it was kinda funny. You would have to know him... he is a big boistorius guy. :D Real outgoing and sometimes a little loud. :D

The whole front end, the front of the mirrors, the fog / cornering lights and the headlights are covered along with the top of the rear bumper... in case something rubs it when you are getting it out of the trunk. The headlights are covered in much heavier plastic then the rest of it. Including the pin stripes I had put on it ... $500. And it is as close to invisable as it can get. :D

Just a thought.

Hi TJ

Sounds like a good idea with the plastic film to cover the paint, lights etc. As I mentioned I have some small nicks I have yet to touch up I'll get to that in the near future. Next time I'm at the dealer I will get some paint from the body shop for touch up they ahve a pretty busy shop so it should not take long for the painter to do a silver car & then he can just give me a little bit in a jar so I can touch up the car I just need to drop off a small jar for the paint I'll make that my wifes job wshing out a small jar for the paint I can do a much better job on the touch up with the correct paint better than the touch up paint you buy The small flaw in the rf seat is rite in the middle of the front top part of the lower seat Whn you turn on the overhead map light it just lights it up big time it bugged me at first I thought it was a spot the dealer has a leather repair guy that looked at it His thought was it's a factory defect in the leather No issue just needs a new cover. Most people would let it slide not me I'm like you I want my cars rite as they car be. After i noticed that flaw when I would sit at the red light with no passanger in the car & look at it the more it bugged me. When I purchased the 07 I looked at the car at noon checked it over went for a test ride told them i would take it left the dealer at 2pm came back at 4pm with a check & drove it home So they did not have but 2 hrs to do what they could in that amount of time Their main concern was a safety check just to cover their a the rest will be taken care of later Not the greatest way to buy a car It is much better to get everything done before you drive it off the lot Now I have to go back & forth a couple times to make the car up to snuff

Good idea about getting the paint from the dealer body shop. Should be a lot better than the pre-bottled touchup paint. May be a problem with mine tho. It is the Tri Coat White Lightning. Anyway... I will go by there as soon as I get a chance and ask them about it.

Thanks for the idea.
