I have searched for performance chip options and the only one I see that may be worth looking into is the Surge Performance Chip. I remember domesticperformance.com (which is no longer around) had a performance chip which costs about $250 (from what I remember) and it was advertised as being programmable to some degree. The low price of the Surge Chip tends to lead me to believe that it could be a gimmick?

Ed Wright (FastChip) made a GREAT chip for my 1994 Eldorado. Otherwise stock, the car ran 14.9's which I thought was terrific with an early Northstar motor. This was not an ETC and it had the 270hp motors.

cheers,

Hi Doc

I have a few questions for you if you don't mind answering:

Were you able to program the chip?

Did the chip give you better or worse gas mileage?

Overall, do you think the chip is worth it?

It looks like Fastchip is still willing to make one for the '94 Eldorado and I might be inclined to buy one but it depends upon what I get.

I have a fastchip in my 95 Eldo, works great. Speed limiter removed

and a more responsive. They claim 12 hp increase which I believe.

Cost last January was $149. Chip comes programed, fuel mileage

same or better. Definitly worth it.

You might consider changing out the PCM, which has the prom that limits speed based on the original tires installed by the factory. I have one for sale out of a 93-94 STS which had the Z rated tires. I put this PCM in my 94 ETC, just for a test, and went 134 MPH before I ran out of road.

$100.00 plus $8 for priority mail. email me at jfreezn@aol.com

That is VERY VERY COOL, Thanks for that Jim

Might I caution anyone who does this to make sure your suspension is upgraded with whatever goodies the Z performance package adds. That might include, bigger stabilizer bars and whatever else do you guys think? At the higher speeds your suspension needs a tweak IMHO

Does anyone know what if any differences there are besides the tires and PCM?

I doubt this is possible since PROMs are programmed according to engine specs to meet proper timing, etc. Before swapping, for example, a PCM or PROM from an '94 STS (Vin # 9, L37 engine) into a '94 SLS or Eldorado (Vin # Y, LD8 engine) you should make sure such a swap is possible--I doubt it.

I emailed Ed Wright of Fastchip and here is his response:

Hello Michael,

GM stopped selling new chips for those. The only way I can do one is to have one to erase and re-program. I did one for a gentleman from Arkansas last week, had to erase and reprogram his original. If you can find one at a salvage, etc, I could re-do that one and you would still have your original.

Since you would have to provide a stock Memcal, it would cost $125.00 + freight.

Thanks, Ed

I sent Mr. Wright another email and advised him that I can buy an ACDelco PROM at autopartsgiant.com and he responded giving me the thumbs-up. So I just bought a new PROM and will forward it to him for programming.
