Performance module

Are performance module like the one on eBay right now "Tweaked performance module , eBay Item number: 200151451640" worth the effort to purchase and install?

I have no experience with them and would like to know if there are any down side to them?

This device, according to the eBay post, goes in the line to the IAT (intake air temperature) sensor. I'm not sure that this functionality can do much for horsepower and torque. If this mod tells the PCM that the air is cooler than it really is, the mixture might be adjusted to run a little rich to compensate. However, when the engine warms up and the oxygen sensors come online, I would think that the closed-loop fuel injection would compensate for false IAT readings and give the engine 14:1 mixture as always.

I believe that so-called modules (resisters) which replace the intake air temperature sensor with a fixed value are not a good idea. If you do want to experiment with this approach, I would recommend Radio Shack, as resisters tend to cost under $1 there.

Ed Wright at fastchip.com makes a performance computer calibration for the 4.9L Cadillac V8 which will remove the top speed limiter, and in my experience in my 1992 STS helps with acceleration. This is a memcal chip which replaces the memory chip in your PCM with a new computer program (calibration).

Thanks for the advice.

I'm very happy with the performance of my Touring Coupe and think I'll keep it just the way it is.

Thanks Again,

Rick
