Off topic, need help with what type of grease to use

Sorry for the non cadillac question but this board does such a good job with technical issues I find it hard to work on any car without knowing all the details (in otherwords I am now a little obsessive).

I need to install some shifter bushings on my wifes VW Cabrio and was wondering what type of grease would be best for the plastic shifter bushings (if any) ? Here is a link to the type of shaft and bushings (1 on each end)..

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance..

Those bushings appear to be more like a nylon-type composition than plastic. What does VW recommend?

If VW is silent on lubrication, I would install them dry. Lubrication can be counter-productive in certain applications (such as throttle cables).

Thats kind of what I was wondering (install them dry), although they do have spiral voids inside that look to hold grease. The guy at Volkswagen did not know if they needed grease or not and I don't have a service manual yet ( I have a haynes manual but we all know how usefull those are :-). I was not too worried about it because I thought I could easily find the info on the web but so far not much luck (maybe I am not looking in the right places :-).

Thanks for the input.

brmurph,

Have you tried the following forum?

In a related matter, my wife just bought a new VW Rabbitt.

Good luck

Add power to leave problems behind. Most braking is just - poor planning.
