overriding the self leveling system

I have a 1997 sts seville that I have put 245/50r18 100v toyos'. The problem that I am experienceing is that the left back tire is now rubbing when I drive over bumps and dips. I want to add air shocks to the rear, to raise the rear off the tires. But, am told that I would have to override the self leveling system. Any suggestions? Does anyone have any other ways that may fix this issue?

Take them back and get 245/45R18 size. The stock tire has a rolling diameter of 26.6 inches. The 245/50R18 tire size has a 27.6 inch rolling diameter. That extra half inch is causing your hitting problem. The 245/45R18 size has almost exactly the same rolling diameter as the stock 225/60R16.

You are also about 3.8% high on the overall effective gear ratio with these slightly oversize tires. That means that the speedometer will be off by the same amount, reading 3.8% low. At an indicated 70 mph, your actual speed will be 73 mph, enough to exceed your safety margin against getting a ticket.

What Jims_97_ETC said. You need to keep the same rolling diameter tire.

Also check to see if it is the extra WIDTH causing the problem. The 245X50 is a good bit wider than the 225X60. I have 245X45X18 on my DTS. They are almost ten and a half inches wide from sidewall to sidewall.
