Seatbelt retractor broken?

Hey guys, im new to the forum, but not new to cadillacs. I just picked up a 94 Eldo with 155k on the clock. Car is near mint bodywise, engine runs good, interior in great shape. Only paid $1000 the lady who was the orig owner, said it needed a new heater core and alternator. Well i replaced the heater core in about 2 hours, adn I took the battery out, it was an original batt. Popped a new one in, no problem, alternator keeping it at 14.2 volts. Anyways, my passenger side seatbelt retractor on the roof doesnt work, it seems like the spring is busted. Can these be fixed, replaced or do i need a whole new seatbelt entirely.

Thanks Guys

My advice would be to call a salvage yard and spend a few bucks for one that works. Installation should be a breeze. Chances are the aggravation involved with fixing a busted spring (assuming that's the problem) probably isn't worth the trouble. If you can find a new seat belt (belt and all) it will likely be about $100.

My advice is to take it back to a dealer. First because this is an item that may save your life, don't fool around with it on your own. But second and mostly because this part may actually still be under warranty....since it is a safety item and because there were plenty of problems (called TSB's) with passenger side seat belts in these cars over the years.

Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.
