adallak
I destroyed rubber bushings on my rear calipers by using wrong brake grease (probably petroleum-based). A sales-guy recommended it... Well, the bushings are shot (soft) and they cannot hold the caliper pins firmly when I hit a bump. That's th ereason a I get that annoying clunk (pads linings hit the caliper bracket). Today I purchased caliper repair kit anf asked for silicone-based grease. The NAPA guy offered syntetic brake and caliper grease which states: "...unlike silicone-based brake greases, STA-LUBE will not damage rubber or plastic components...". Another marketing BS? What do you guys think? The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
MAC
There is grease that is safe for plastic and rubber. I'm not the best person to respond, but generally synthetic grease which is not petroleum based is safe for rubber parts. Petroleum based grease can break down rubber. If you doubt it read the label and make sure it states that it's safe for rubber. I'm sure Ranger and/or BBF will chime in here.

The grease which destroyed my bushings was not marked as petroleum -based either! And I heared that one can use safely ONLY silicone-based grease. But now if you read my post carefully the manufacturer of this new synthetic grease says it will not destroy your rubber parts UNLIKE SILICONE-BASED grease! Ranger
If it says "STA-LUBE will not damage rubber or plastic components.." I would feel safe using it.

I use Sil-Glyde for brake bushings, which is silicone based (non-petroleum). I bought a big tube of it from Napa for $4-5. Pepboys sells the little bitty packs for $1 - rip off IMO. Yes Epricedright, I will stick with silicone-based grease and will return that STA-LUBE to NAPA. Enough experimenting with new products... and all that marketing BS. KevinW
I've never had any trouble with GM Silicone Brake Lubricant (18010908 for 1/4 oz. packets; 18010909 for a package of 10?; ACDelco #179-1017 for the latter). It is noted that the product contains dimethyl polysiloxane and amorphous silica. Last I heard, a local VW dealer was purchasing the stuff from GM because they couldn't find anything better on the market... ___________________________________________________
