AIR CONDITIONER

Still working on problem with air, I re-checked mix door behind glove box, all is well. I notice the pipes in engine not as cold as my other gm car. I have had car back to the guy 2 times now. I really don't want to take to someone else. The compressor was very clunky and loud before it was replaced and was noisey a long while. Could that have damaged the condenser? He says presure on high and low are normal, and if the condenser was bad there would be higher presure on high side. Any ideas would be appreciated

I would have the refrigerant recovered and weigh it to see if it is the proper amount. While the system is empty, pull the orifice tube and check it for debris.

Yes, Kevin. He has taken charge out and and recharged several times now. He has found metal in tube. Iwish I understood air conditioning, so I could fix it myself. Do you think putting a new condenser in would help. I could have him vacuum out charge and put the condenser in myself. And then go have it charged. I'm into this for 1100.00 already. Thanks

I have a 96 Deville, my compressor self destructed sort of like a black death. My orifice tube was clogged. I replaced the condenser and flushed the entire system and replaced the orifice tube. I also replaced the accumulator. Who changed the compressor? When he recovered the freon did he get out the same amount he put in? (2 pounds). I was told that once the compressor starts throwing debris, it will get into the condenser and it needs replacing as you cant flush it. Is this an AC Delco compressor? Do you have any codes? When you looked at the air mix door does it move when you vary the temp?

If there was a considerable amount of crap in the orifice tube, the condenser should be removed and the system should be flushed with A/C flush to remove the remaining debris. Do not flush through the accumulator - just disconnect it and flush the evaporator and lines. You will need to have the compressor removed so you can flush the lines to and from the compressor. I would say I was surprised that an air conditioning tech did not do this before installing a new compressor but....

I think the shop should bear some responsibility in this case. You paid them to repair your system and the system is not repaired. If the condenser is not replaced and the system flushed, plan on the new compressor failing in short order.

Yes the control doors are working right. I have removed and checked twice. I took the temperture gage and stuck it way up inside, still would only read 63 degrees and the outside was 74. It needs to be flushed and a new condenser put on. Hopfully no further damage will be created. Thanks so much, LARRY
