Va Maddog
95 SLS - The SES light came on tonight for the first time, wasn't a mile from the house and still driving 25 mph in the subdivision when it came on. Stayed on for that ignition cycle, then did not come on again. Checked codes when I got home and the only thing that came up was PO39 History, everything else was "noXXX" codes. (It could have been PD39 - but it went by fast and I wasn't yet used to differentiating between the O's and the D's) I tried to read the history, but schmuck that I am I pushed the wrong button(s) and it appears that instead of reading the history I cleared it - oh well. Looks like the PO39 has to do with the torque converter and possible slippage. I have not noticed any problem with the transmission. My plan of action is to simply wait and watch to see if the SES light comes on again or if I get any other or the same code again. I'll check the codes every couple of days even if I don't get the SES light again. I did just hit 100k. The veh did have it's first tune-up at about 90k before I bought it. If they did not reset the tune-up reminder counter could that trigger the SES after hitting 100K? How is that reset if I need to do so? Any other thoughts or suggestions? Thanks! Va Maddog
Thanks for the link John. I will give that test a try. The SES light has not come on again over the past two days. May have just been a quirk, but I'll continue to watch it, run that test and keep looking for stored codes.

sprucegoose
My 93 Eldo gives me the p039 code almost daily on the same slight incline on the drive into work about a mile or so from my house. It has been like that since I bought it last year. I replaced the PROM in the PCM last year on advise of a series of posts in the archives, and it seemed like it helped for a while, but it came back to a very regular occurance again. It seems like it is not that big of a deal, but it just gets annoying always seeing the light on, and wondering if it is some other code. I am just living with it for now...
