daniel812
I have a 98 SLS with electronic suspension front and back. I was thinking of buying new shocks/struts because when I go over speed bumps the car bottoms out unless I go really really slow. Are they adjustable?? Also, why are new parts so expensive?? Ranger
They are not adjustable. They are expensive because they are "active" (they adjust to changing conditions electronically).
daniel812
so electronic suspension is supposed to be a better and softer ride if I am correct, but then why cant it adjust when I drove over speed bumps? If I dont go 2-3 MPH the car will bottom out and it drives me nuts
JimD
They are not selectable/manually adjustable. Sounds like your struts are worn out, used up, have reached their expected service life. You could bite the bullet for OEM parts or compromise with one of the aftermarket parts alternatives. Or, you might try negotiating the speed bumps at 20+ MPH. Jim Drive your car. I see I can buy the full conversion kit shipped for $400 from suspension-alternatives Will I need to disable anything so the computer can tell a difference? daniel812
How will changing to conventional struts/shocks from air shocks affect my ride?
BodybyFisher
Mechanically they function exactly like the active struts. The active struts read the road through level the level sensors and adjust the struts to stiffen up as needed. However a good strut will also react to the road, see this description, http://www.monroe.com/products/mp_detail.a...p;detail=Struts Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
