Tampa caddy 1998
Could this be a crank sensor, codes showed PO 603 and PCM 1599, cleared codes this has happened two times to my wife while driving. Oil light came on that dash car shut off, she restarted showed all the lamps like on normal start up. I cleared the codes none showed up today after a 20 mile drive. Also washer motor is dead all fuses good. When starting the throttle sticks untill pressed and it is fine. The sticking seems to be in the TB. Before I get started I want to see if anyone else has had these issues. Thanks

Larry
TRY CLEANING YOUR BATTERY TERMINALS, AND MAKE SURE CONNECTIONS ARE TIGHT, SHOULD BE CHARGING AROUND 13 TO 14.5 VOLTS. MAKE SURE BATTERY IS IN GOOD CONDITION AND AT FULL CHARGE GOOD LUCK.
Ranger
Sticking throttle is surely a carboned up TB that is screaming for a cleaning. P0603 - Control Module Long Term Memory Reset P1599 - Engine Stall or Near Stall Detected You can find the codes here. http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/dtcobd2.html Under what conditions did the engine die? Cruise, acceleration, deceleration, idle?

Ranger
Hmm, '98's are not known for bad CKP sensors and it should set a DTC if it failed. ICM ground maybe?
rmac-etc
My 95 etc was stalling at speed and at idle and it turned out to be the fuel pump. Mine is an odb1, so I don't know if your's (obd2) would throw a code for a fuel pump issue ..
Ranger
Yeah, an intermittent fuel pump is a definite possibility.

Is this the same code that will set if the battery is disconnected?
Ranger
I think so. One of them anyway.

MAC
I think so. One of them anyway. Battery is faily new but will check all the connections tonight! Is there 1 or 2 crank sensors? Battery connections may look good as far as bolts and battery/cable surfaces, but there still may be corrosion under cable protective insulation. Take apart the positive cables and look carefully under plastic cable cover (if your cable happens to have one) and you may see white buildup. You can buy acid/corrosion cleaner at Wal-Mart for a few dollars--Good stuff. I believe your Northstar also has two crank sensors (an A and B sensor) located between cylinders 4 and 6 in the block near the oil filter and front engine mount. Look up through the engine mount area and you should see them.
Ranger
Yup, 2 CKP sensors.
Tampa Caddy
Thought I would give you an update: Battery was bad only 18 months old and the connections had corroision on them. I cleaned the TB today and gas pedal now does not stick. I was wondering about the IRC cleaning that was mentioned, how and were is it located. A good PDF on the Motor , Electrical and other major componets would be helpfull. Thanks for your help!
