Marika
Here's a pic I took this morning of a very nasty accident along Route 46 west. For the life of me, I can't figure out how the silver car got half way on top of the mini van and wedged up against the building. The Jeep was pushed into the building, breaking the brick wall. I have no idea if there were fatalities. Anyone who wants a larger version, e-mail me through this board. If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.
Bill K
Why do people think speeding is the cause of an accident? Why not driving skills, cell phones, spilled coffee, car trouble ect.? Theres only two kinds of people I see on the road. The dumb *smurf* going slower than I am and the maniac going faster

Marika
What I CAN tell you about the accident is that the traffic on that side of the highway is moving WEST while those cars are pointing EAST. If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.
Marika
Here's the story behind the accident..... Car hits bagel shop; driver on life support Sunday, April 18, 2004 By KAREN MAHABIR STAFF WRITER SADDLE BROOK - A man was clinging to life Saturday after he slammed into a motorist on Route 46, continued through an intersection, and crashed into two parked cars and a bagel shop, police said. The driver, whom officers were still trying to identify Saturday afternoon, was partially ejected from his rented 2003 Nissan Maxima and was on life support at Hackensack University Medical Center, Chief Robert J. Kugler said. A passenger, a 16-year-old Passaic girl, was thrown from the car and hospitalized for trauma to her head, face, and pelvis, he said. The 6 a.m. crash began on Route 46, near the intersection of 5th Street, when the Nissan's driver smacked into the passenger side of a 1993 Geo Prism, causing it to spin out of control, Kugler said. The Nissan continued through the intersection, jumped a concrete island, and then crashed into cars parked outside the Metro Bagels & Deli, as well as the store itself, he said. A mother and her teenage daughter who were in the Geo suffered minor injuries and were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson, the chief said. Also injured and taken to St. Joseph's were Rosalio Tlatenchi, 31, of Paterson, and David Dominguez, 18, of Passaic, who were parked in vehicles outside the bagel shop, Kugler said. The accident caused extensive damage to the front of the bagel store, which had just opened for business. Two employees, and a customer, Dominguez's father, were not injured, the chief said. Police responded after receiving numerous calls, and were assisted by the town's Fire Department and ambulance services, as well as the Elmwood Park Fire Department, and Lodi police. The right lane of Route 46 west was shut down until 12:40 p.m. while police investigated. Kugler said an open container of alcohol was found in the Nissan. If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

Just Kidding we have our share of horrific accidents on Long Island also last week a car was going so fast when it hit a tree, that it broke in half!! Four Dead! While I firmly feel that we are in control of our OWN actions and outside influences should not influence us..... its about time Hollywood stops putting out the SPEED movies making speed look so harmless that draw in the kids. I am sure we all see the kids in their mini-ha ha Japanese burners driving like a-holes. Kids don't need help feeling invinceable do they?
