CANADIANCADDY
Could someone please give me specific instuctions on how to identify and remove the cabin air filter on a 98 STS? Many thanks, Paul PS I have been under the dash 3 times and cannot find an access door to the filters. I do see a white plastic fixture with a tab on it which is near the firewall and the base of the console ------ is this the access door or the actual first of three filters? JimD
Disclaimer... I have not performed this filter change! But, paraphrasing my Service Manual: Remove the LH side carpeted panel of the center console (pull out (to the left) on the front edge of the panel forward of the gas pedal). Twist the shift cable grommet and position it away from the filter cover. Remove the filter access cover. Push down, then pull out. Remove tape on first filter. Remove first filter by pulling filter tab. Remove second filter by pulling filter tab. Remove third filter by pulling tab. Installation involves placing filter sections (3) one at a time, lifting and locking them in place using the channels and tabs on the filter. Not for me to do. Good luck. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
JohnnyG
Yep, that's it, the white plastic cover. Be careful, this is the item my dealership broke when I had them change mine. I don't know how old you are, but if you can install a DVD-ROM drive in your computer while standing on your head, you will have no trouble with this job. P.S. If you DO decide to tackle this one, it helps to remove the gas pedal, pull that transmission cable grommet completely out, and twist the cable up out of the way. Also make sure not to stick any pointy objects into the filter opening since it may puncture something. Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.
