Dasos
I just bought a used 98 Sts with 114000 miles. Everything seems pretty good but I have a few issues. The problem is there was a lot of codes in history. I hope I don't have a bad computer. I do not see any other dic messages or lights. Secound question is sometimes the car takes longer then normal to start. Last but not least, the previous ownwr lost the 6 cd caddy for the changer. Does anyone know who makes it or how to find a replacement? thanks in advanced. adallak
Too many codes! Something is definitely wrong with battery/cables/connections/grounds. Check the positive cable. They are known to corrode under the red plastic cover. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
JimD
I just bought a used 98 Sts with 114000 miles. Everything seems pretty good but I have a few issues. The problem is there was a lot of codes in history. I would not be overly concerned with history codes where you do not know the 'history' of the situation. My advice is to clear all of the codes and start with a fresh slate. Monitor the codes for a week or so and see if any current codes appear. It is possible there were faults reported in the past and after the problem was addressed, the codes were not cleared. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! Cadillac Jim
Looking at the codes, the battery got very low -- causing most of the codes -- then they put a charger on it. I don't see any reason to believe that any of them are due to a real problem. As JimD and adillac say, clean the battery cables, which will clear all the codes except one or two that tell us the battery was disconnected, drive it for a day or two and check the codes again. Cadillac Jim
If it starts fine cold, but is hard starting hot, the FPR is a likely culprit. If it's hard starting cold, the plugs and wires are a good place to start. You can check the FPR by seeing if there is gas in the vacuum hose. You can check the spark with a spark checker from an auto parts store. The front bank will likely show the problem if there is one there. If you change the plugs, be sure and get the OEM AC/Delco plugs for your Northstar, and I would recommend that you look at wires, too, at 114,000 miles. If you change the wires, again go with AC/Delco OEM for your specific engine. As far as the CD caddy, I think it may be a 12-CD changer. You can try eBay. Anyone else have any ideas on that? -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. Patrick7997
I would Ebay the CD changer... Or, I'm not sure of the particulars, but there are some Pioneer units that will plug n play with the wiring in the trunk.... In 1998, I would expect those were 12 disc cd changers in the trunk... My 1997 is a 12 disc, original Delco unit... about the only time I got thru the whole magazine was a non-stop trip to Florida....

bigjayzway
Make sure you get Delco parts only for this car....TRUST ME! You might pay a couple of bucks more, but it is worth it. Ask anyone on here, no other wires or plugs will work right. Big Jay Life is too short to grow up!
