FSchuett
hello, today I´ve installed the new shift "a" and "b" solenoid kit with a new filter kit... And I´ve see that the old shift "b" solenoid is broken !!! All 4 balls are in the right position ;-) After I cleared the code P029, I make a test drive... Sometimes the transaxle are shifting in all gears (with varying confused speed) and sometimes it is not shifting. Now, íf the speed are over 3.000 to 3.500 upm the code P029 with "service engine soon" light will come. What´s that ? Frank

Frank Assuming that you installed them correctly and assuming that they are good, check the tranmission plug, clean it with electrical contact cleaner and re-plug/re-set it. If that does not work, I would drop the pan and check the connection at the solenoids to make sure its a good solid positive connection and if I could I would check the resistance and continuity of the wiring to the plug.. You can also check the resistence of the solenoids, there is a chart in the FSM: Automatic Transmission Inline Harness Connector End View Transmission Side Connector Part Information 12160545 20-way F Micro-Pack 100W Series (Gray) Pin Wire Color Circuit No. Function A 0.8 LT GRN 1222 1-2 Shift Solenoid (1-2 SS) Valve Control B 0.8 YEL 1223 2-3 Shift Solenoid (2-3 SS) Valve Control C 0.8 PPL 1228 Pressure Control Solenoid (PC Sol.) Cadillac Jim
One last thing -- make sure that the connections for Solenoid A and Solenoid B aren't switched. If all else fails and you weren't sure which was which, try reversing them. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. FSchuett
Hello, I´ve found in an old forum, that these new solenoids are hold with a metal bracket in position. I don´t know where i can install these bracket ! Anyone a picture from the installation ? Frank
KHE
Frank, It sounds like you did not install the metal support bracket. If that is the case, that is the problem. I know others on the board have done this repair - hopefully, they will chime in. The broken solenoid is the failure mode - when they go bad, the housing cracks and they don't function. Ranger
Frank has been looking for exactly where it goes. I know there where pics posted at one time if anyone remembers where they are.
Jan Olsson
Unfortunately I don't remember where to put the brackets. I only remember that they were included with the kit and if I recall right I believe that it was an installation sketch in the parcel... I think it was a 90° bracket with a larger hole in it (for the solenoid). Just put it on the solenoid and the location will be obvious when you're trying to put it back together. Seems like your problem is there anyway, they are there for a reason you know Correct me if I'm wrong. Sorry no pictures.
FSchuett
My Eldo is running... Now, it was the broken "b" solenoid (code P029). The new solenoids are a little bit different, with no plastic nose which press the filter in position. In the solenoid kit is a little metal bracket (L form) to press the filter in position. I sheep forgot to instal these bracket Now... it´s running Thank you very very much from all you helps in these forum... Frank
BodybyFisher
Glad to hear you fixed it Frank! Feels good doesn't it? Jan Olsson
Congratulations! I can assure you that you can feel "safe" about the transmission now. THe 4T80E is as bulletproof as they get. And now the a-bahn awaits?
rmac-etc
Glad that has solved it. I had to replace mine (95 etc, 160k m) about 4 years ago and it has been running perfectly since ..

fivepointohman
I cannot stress how important it is to install the filter hold down rod, as the new filter will get pushed out of its bore and the car will not shift.
