Traction Control & ABS light

Recommended Posts

These lights come on when I start the car sometimes, other times I honk on the gas, tires spin, "Traction Active" displayed and then both lights come on.

Pulled some codes and heres what I got:

TC0041 Current

TC0044 Current

TC0045 Current

PZ2461 Current

Any thoughts? Suggestions to why these decided to pop up?

Thanks

T041 ................................................... RF ABS Valve Solenoid Fault

T044 ...................................................... RF TCS Pilot Valve Fault

T045 ................................................... LF ABS Valve Solenoid Fault

Sounds like an EBTCM problem.

Thanks for the reply Ranger.

Any more information on a EBTCM problem? I have no idea what that is.

Thanks again

Yeah that PZ2461, I have always had the code....never seems to be a serious problem.

If indeed your EBTCM module is bad check E-bay. There are several rebuilders

of this very pricey unit...................

Thanks for the info sonjaab,

The light hasnt showed up in a few days now, it also seems to display when it is wet outside, or a bit colder....not too sure if this matters or just a coincedence.

Ok some updated news that I could use some help with.

My mechanic said that the unit that relates to ABS is completley corroded away and is a pricey unit to replace (I'm guessing the EBTCM module). He said that I dont have any ABS brakes and this light remains on all the time. BUT....when I start my car only the ABS light is on, but as soon as I drive two meters, the TRACTION CONTROL light comes on. I also get the code TC0061.

Any thoughts on this situation??? I dont mind not having ABS, but not being able to start in first gear is a killer! It takes all the fun away from the Cadillac.

I have been quite upset lately with my baby and my P.O.S. ford Exploder! lol ha!

Not to hate on the beauty of Cadillacs, but I cant wait to buy myself a 2007 Toyota Tacoma!

It seems the traction control light is related to the ABS/EBTCM issue, see this bulletin:

TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR 'ON', DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE #63-50-16 - (Apr 26, 1996)

SUBJECT: TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR "ON", DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) 73 SET (REPLACE EBTCM)

MODELS: 1996 CADILLAC CONCOURS, DEVILLE, ELDORADO SEVILLE

BUILT PRIOR TO VIN BREAKPOINTS:

CONCOURS/DEVILLE 280478 ELDORADO 614516 SEVILLE 826978

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON THE TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR COMING "ON". ALSO, DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) 73 MAY SET.

CAUSE:

AN EBTCM SOFTWARE DEFICIENCY MAY CAUSE A FALSE DTC 73 TO SET WHEN CERTAIN DRIVER INITIATED ACTIONS OCCUR IN THE NORMAL OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. THIS MAY OCCUR IF THE IGNITION SWITCH IS "PARKED" BETWEEN THE RUN AND OFF POSITIONS OR ON CONSOLE BLOWER EQUIPPED VEHICLES IF THE BLOWER SPEED CONTROL IS LEFT IN THE HIGH POSITION WHEN THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF.

IMPORTANT: IT IS NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE TO CREATE THE CODE OR CAUSE THE TELLTALE TO LIGHT.

CORRECTION:

1. DETERMINE THE DTC 73 IS NOT SET BECAUSE OF A LEGITIMATE MALFUNCTION IN THE VEHICLE. PERFORM THE DIAGNOSTIC STEPS OUTLINED FOR DTC 73 IN SECTION 5E2 OF THE 1996 CADILLAC PRODUCT SERVICE INFORMATION MANUAL. ALSO REFER TO DTC 73 DIAGNOSTIC AIDS IN SECTION 5E2.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT CHANGE THE EBTCM UNTIL YOU HAVE READ THROUGH AND FOLLOWED THE SERVICE MANUAL TROUBLE TREE AND DIAGNOSTIC AID. CHANGING THE EBTCM BEFORE FOLLOWING THE PROPER DIAGNOSIS COULD LEAD TO UNNECESSARY TIME AND EXPENSE AND MAY NOT CORRECT THE CONDITION.

2. IF THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE TREE AND AID DOES NOT CORRECT THE CONDITION, CHECK THE EBTCM SOFTWARE LEVEL USING A SCAN TOOL OR ON-BOARD PARAMETERS: "TCS DATA PARAMETER TC D07, ECU ID B". IF THE PARAMETER READS "4065", REPLACE THE EBTCM WITH P/N 25633191. THE NEW MODULE WILL HAVE A PARAMETER VALUE OF "4205".

IMPORTANT: ANY VEHICLE BUILT AFTER THE ABOVE BREAKPOINTS WILL ALREADY HAVE THE UPDATED EBTCM. THE PART NUMBER HAS NOT CHANGED; HOWEVER, THE SOFTWARE HAS BEEN UPGRADED.

PARTS INFORMATION:

PARTS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FROM GMSPO.

WARRANTY INFORMATION:

FOR VEHICLES REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY, USE:

LABOR OPERATION NUMBER: H2505 USE PUBLISHED LABOR OPERATION TIME.

Well I did it!

I bought myself a 2007 Toyota Tacoma! Amazing truck....perfect for hunting season, hauling crap and overall great truck!

My Cadillac is still sitting proudly in the driveway and I went to take her for a ride the other day but it was completely dead! I boosted it, let it run for awhile took her for a rip, then......the next day she was dead again!

I'm running on a low budget because of the new truck right now, so I'm putting the STS away for hibernation this winter and I can deal with the EBTCM problem in the spring.

Miss her like crazy, but heres some shots of the new truck!
