DEVILLE USING COOLANT/ANTIFREEZE

Recommended Posts

Well folks..............I may be a N*star problems victim.

Last month I noticed the low coolant message on my 03 deville w/45k miles.

I filled the res. tank with some Deathcool to the marks and checked for

leaks and such. Haven't noticed any excessive white smoke out of the

exaust, fogging of the windows, or coolant/AF smell.

Because of the nasty weather I have been driving my 4x4 truck but needed

to run to Rochester a few times this week to pick up family at the airport.

So the luxoboat cruiser was needed.....................

Sure enough the low coolant/AF message came on and the res. was bone dry!

I refilled it then checked the oil and noted for leaks, smoke, fogging................

As always I note the temp guage. But reading in the middle as usual..............

Good news is my 4yr/50k new car warranty is still in effect. So its time for

some Mr. Goodwrench warranty service...........................

Bummer.....I was expecting to keep this car for at least another 2 years. But if

I am gonna have issues its bye-bye time. I wanted to get a new GMT-900 truck

this year...................

This is my 1st and only issue I have had with this car.............geo

Listen, you are hitting the panic button. I am losing coolant as we speake from a bad radiator side tank and a seeping water pump. DON'T hit the PANIC button before you diagnose the problem it could be a bad clamp, hose, water pump, radiator, crossover pipe, crossover, etc... Don't assume..the worst.

Don't give up that quick. Let the dealer handle it and get it fixed with the warranty. No reason to panic and sell it yet.

Yea, sell it to me, I know its foolish but I don't consider these cars an investment, I consider them a hobby. If it breaks, I fix it. I don't loose sleep of what MIGHT happen, I hope for the best and deal with it when I have to. I do a lot of PM in the meantime. That is love, not logic.

If you want to be logical, its best to buy new, have a warranty and trade it in. I will admit I don't have deep enough pockets for that, but on the other hand, I enjoy working on these cars also.

I am driving a 96 with 95K on it, what's the worse that can happen? I junk it?, big deal, I buy another...and rebuild it... my hobby starts over again...

To minimize time and effort, I agree. To minimize dollars spent, no way.

To be, buying "gently used" is the best way to compromise between minimizing time and effort, and money spent. I still get to do the things I like to do (well, rarely...these things seldom break), and I don't have to redirect more of our money towards twice the car payment.

I agree with the dollars spent, that is what I meant by I don't have deep pockets..

Buying a car like you bought and like others here have done like Warren, Ted, Ranger, Jim, is the way to go
