ive been reading alot of the topics and have encountered alot of the problems and have fixed them myself so i thought i would join to try to add some helpful information and try to just help out. but with all of my knowledge of this car i have come to something that really stumps me. i have the "bulletproof" 4T80E and i got a problem where after the trans gets to the higher range of its operating temp the car will fail to shift into first gear at a stop then after a short time of driving it will fail to shift into second as well. looking at common problems i had it taken to a trans shop they scanned the computer wile driving it and it was commanding first and second but not shifting. so i replaced the solenoids on the valve body. when i opened the pan up it was filled with metal so i still replaced them but didnt get any difference in the condition. i took it to a very good trans shop close to where i work and they drove it for two days and couldnt get the problem to happen to them but i got them to rebuild it anyway. basically every moving part in the trans and the diff had something wrong with it so now i have a new trans but driving home from the shop i lost first and second gear AGAIN!!!! now for my question anybody have any other ideas i dont have any codes that i know of but i will check in a couple mins. its going to the shop on monday to get looked at again but any help would be appretiated.

Does it whine?

Check for codes

Explain what you mean by you lost first and second. It starts in THIRD? There is a default condition where it starts in Second.

You said every moving part was damaged and they replaced all moving parts, did they show you the damaged parts? What part caused all of the debris in the tranny? Was it clutch material or did a part go bad?

i am aware of the second gear starts when the tcc is off and yes the car does start in third. no noises it just stays at about 2000-2800 RPM until about 50km/h when it was rebuilt the cause of all the debris was determined to be the diff and all the pieces got spread throughout the tranny causing secondary damage to alot of other parts and ya i saw the parts and i was surprised it even moved let alone shifted into ANY gears. the car has about 220,000 km on it and there was still quite a bit of clutch material left on the disks and when i replaced the solenoids it already had the update kit in it so im thinking it was already out of the car before i got it. im going out to move the car in the driveway now so ill check for codes while im there. NOTE: when they removed the tranny i dont think they un-hooked the battery so when i got home i disconnected it and let it sit for about an hour to see if the computer needed to be re-set but it didnt work.

Those codes are not related to the tranny

Third and Fourth Gears Only

Causes

2-3 Shift Solenoid Valve Stuck ON

Pinched wire to ground
