kensala313
the other week when my car overheated, i had about 25% oil life left. after the overheat, the next time i started the car, it said change engine oil, and the oil life was at 0%. after an overheat, does the comp automaticlly say its time to change the oil?? or is this becuase the oil got hot was was broken down? how exactly does the oil life monitor measure when its time to change the oil?? Thanks, Ken
Ranger
Anytime you overheat the engine the OLM will default to 0 oil life and request an oil change, due to the possibility that the oil has cooked. Synthetic will withstand heat better, but the car was spec'd for conventional and that is what the OLM is based on.
