Recommended Posts

I took my 01 Seville back for an alignment and they came back with it needs 2 front wheel bearings, the rack & pinion is leaking, and an outer tie rod is bad. Well....I bought it last week with a 3 month 100% covered warranty. They are saying those aren't included with the warranty...BS!!!!!! I will be having an all out war tomorrow. I HATE DEALERSHIPS!!!!!

If the warranty is in writing, take it out and read it very carefully. Take notes, and get your ducks in a row before you go back in. Stay cool, mature, and polite. If the warranty, as written, does specify that they fix these things, and you feel that they are not honoring the warranty, excuse yourself and politely ask the receptionist where the service manager's office is... and NEVER give up the moral high ground by becoming angry or using strong language.

I depends on what warranty the dealer (I presume a dealer) was talking about. If a dealer gave you separate warranty that's one thing; however, if it was referring to your state's lemon law, which may only compel a dealer to warrant the drive train, then you may be out of luck. This is why you were probably given an opportunity to take the car to a mechanic before you purchased it? On the other hand, your state's lemon law may actually be where you should look if the dealer contends that it did not warrant the car's suspension system. The lemon law may be written in such a way to compel the dealer to make all repairs that will get the car passed inspection unless you waived that provision with knowledge. The dealer may be required to warrant the suspension system within the time period or mileage prescribed by the law.

I'm sure the warranty is just powertrain and if I remember right, that doesn't cover tie rods and such. That will just cover engine, tranny, transfer case (on 4WD) etc.

BTW, I took my 01 suburban once to get an alignment and this guy slaps this piece of paper in front of me saying that I need all this front end work. He quoted me $600! I told him I'd think about it and went to someone else (someone I have trusted for years and does excellent work) for an alignment. They aligned it and I asked if they saw anything wrong with any of the front end parts and they said they checked everything out and it was fine.

Before you start paying for parts, I'd get a second opinion...or third.

I don't believe any of those items would contribute to your pulling and if they did you would 1) hear the wheel bearings moaning, 2) feel the outer tie rod slamming on bumps through your steering wheel and 3) see leaking (but even if it did leak it would not cause pulling or hurt your ability to get an alignment)...

Take it to a reputible alignment shop and have them align it as is....

I just talked to the used car manager and he appologized for the ignorance of their service dept. and they will be fixing everything under warranty at no cost to me. RELIEF!!! With a new front end...that should last me awhile.

I have to wonder if the parts count will change now that the repair is on their nickel.

Maybe I'm too cynical some days . . . .

I was thinking the exact same thing..... and definately would want to know what was replaced... If those parts are NOT replaced, I would have them checked by an independent shop, if those parts are NOT bad, that would be my last visit to that shop... The hub bearings definately interest me, I did not hear that there was a moaning symptom....

I am just as cynical

You have to be cynical now-a-days. It seems that everyone is out to take everybody else's money.

I have the same feelings and I requested a complete breakdown of parts replaced and I will check after to see if they really did. I don't trust any dealership...I have been down that road before with my '92 Seville and others.

I got my car back from the dealer yesterday. They ended up replacing the rack & pinion....both hubs...both outer tie rods...both axle shafts & CV joints....wiper blades...alignment and an oil change all under warranty, so I won't have to worry about the front end for a LONG time. I still am stunned that I had problems with the front end with only 55,000 miles. kind of makes me nervous that I might have a lemon.

Something just sounds fishy to me. I wouldn't think that all that stuff would be out either. Well, exept the wipers and oil change of course. Is there anyway to check if they actually put that stuff on or just say they did?

Quite frankly, count your blessings.... You are EXTREMELY lucky they did all of that work... I am SURE that all of it wasn't 100% bad..... YOU ARE LUCKY!!!! You are good to go for 100K

I am going to throw the car up on my rack and check tomorrow. It also helps that a shoot and edit the television commercials for the dealership and have worked with the owner for a number of years. The service department knew that.. :P
