SWITCHCRAFT
what does it look like? i've got an idea but what do i all need to take off to get to them??? i have the car jacked up in the middle right now pretty much right below them.......... pics or detailed info would be great someone please help
JimD
To access the sensors you will have to remove the bottom plastic trim piece, the oil filter, the oil filter adapter and then you can get your hands in there. The sensors are directly above and below the crankcase split line, behind the front bank exhaust manifold. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! SWITCHCRAFT
thanks for the fast response i have the plastic peice removed.....the thing i was afraid of is is it safe to remove the round engine looking mount while i have the jack supporting the middle?? JimD
I would not. And it is not necessary to do that to get to the sensors. The oil filter and filter adapter method is the easiest. Be careful with the filter adapter O rings. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
SWITCHCRAFT
alright thank you.......the oil filter adapter is under the filter right? oh and di need to drain the oil? sorry for all the questions but i need to get this fixed
BodybyFisher
Here is a photo of the crank sensors (1) Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) Sensor B (2) Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) Sensor A (3) Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) Switch (4) Engine Oil Level Switch I don't think its necessary to drain the oil, BUT, I would go to the dealer and buy new oil filter adapter o-rings...so you dont have leaks afterward Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

SWITCHCRAFT
great i was just under there and noticed a bolt head that's busted off right above the oil pressure switch.....this just keeps getting better
BodybyFisher
Yes, you will find a connector on the oil filter adapter and that is the pressure switch... The oil LEVEL switch is to the left and NOT in the way, I had my adapter off to get to the rear of my AC Compressor to remove it.... Let me know if you need anything else. I think I have a photo of this engine from the front Ill try to find it Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
SWITCHCRAFT
thank you any more photos would only help me i did find both of them but now i'm real scared of the bolt to the right ( the busted one) i think it holds the oil pressure switch ok i got the oil adapter off by the 2 10 mm bolts now......how the hell do i get to those sensors?.......little hands?? also maybe a dumb question but do i really have to disconnect the battery? JimD
Using 1/4" drive tools will buy you a little room. The bolts on the sensors are also 10MM. No need to worry about the battery if the sensors are all you are replacing. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
BodybyFisher
Well this photo won't help much but you can see where the Crank sensors go and the two holes for the oil filter adapter and the oil level sensor to the left.... JimD
If you are reading the codes on the DIC, let the self test run to completion and you will be asked if you want to ALL CLEAR CODES? BodybyFisher
The actron allows you to erase them also, if I am not mistaken, i have a $50 one that allows it. Glad you got it straightened out , that was very fast work, I am impressed!!! So you didnt have a broken bolt, that was a casting hole right?
