exhaust mod for Escalade

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a 04 Escalade and thinking a doing a few mods. The only thing that has been do to it is a K&N cold air intake kit. Does anyone have some ideas on what type of cat back exhaust system would be good? I'd like to keep it under $600 if at all possible.

Welcome to Caddyinfo! Glad to see some Escalade discussion.

I love the Corsa catback system on my CTS; you can hear the Escalade type system here:

but it costs more than your target.

The Magnaflow system here:

is closer to your target budget, and you can hear it here: http://www.magnaflow.com/04sound/trucksound/escaladel.htm

SUVs are a little more sensitive to loud mufflers than are cars or p/u trucks. There is a lot more room in the interior for the sound to bounce around. It can create the dreded droning noise.

I used a Flowmaster 70 series muffler on a V6 Explorer and wouldnt have wanted anything louder. Larger tailpipes will also increase the sound. On my Mountineer I put dual tailpipes from a Y just behind the muffler & eliminated the resonator (stock muffler) and IMO the sound is just right.

It's a trial & error method to get a cat back that sounds good in the interior of an SUV.

I'm running the Corsa system too. I can't say enough good things about it. A buddy of mine has a Yukon, he was interested in the Corsa system a year ago when he was looking but didn't want to spend the money on it so he went with Magnaflow. I rode in the back of his Yukon a couple of weeks ago to the LA auto show...I couldn't hear a thing. The Magnaflow has gotten so loud you have to yell to hear each other. He told me he should have spent the extra $$ on the Corsa.

As Bill says above I'm sure there are other ways to put together a system that doesnt resonate badly inside your SUV but keep in mind the packing material in most systems will blow out and get louder over time.

You're doing the right thing by asking questions first, find a couple of car shows in your area and talk to Escalade owners with aftermarket exhaust and get as much input as you can.

Good luck.
