JasonA
For anyone who has removed only the intake silencer/resonator on a 98+ Seville, and left everything else in place, including the factory airbox, what did you think? The '97, even with the factory airbox, has a more "howling" punch to it at WOT. The '01 STS (and I noticed the same thing on the '04 DeVille I rented), has a flatter and more mechanical sound at WOT. Will removing the intake resonator and plugging the hole improve the sound quality at WOT? No, I will not consider replacing the airbox with a cone filter. OynxSTS
I did this to make it possible to check my Tranny Oil. Replaced the factory resonator with a custom made "maple" plug that a guy at work (who turns bowls) made on his lathe. It is a perfect fit with the same little lip that the factory plastic thingy has and it works with the factory clamp... My results 1) Noise : No change 2) Performance : No change 3) Looks: Lots of laughs from everyone when it was "oiled maple"... "GM uses wood to build caddy's now!?" I painted it flat black and no-one knows its there 4) Able to check tranny Level: Yes mission accomplished! JasonA
Here's memorable post from long ago about the removal of the lower silencer I did. http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?sho...ic=7155&hl= Thanks for that link. Your second post went like this: "Here it is, I got it out. Or My friend got it out. It needed a little muscle. <pic not found> Sounds way better and has way better throttle response. " The picture was not found anymore on the server where it once was. What was the "it" that you removed? Internal baffle to airbox? The exterior resonator? Even if it facilites easy tranny fluid checking, it would be worth it to remove the resonator. Thanks again, Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?"
