sonjaab
What coolant do I use in my 03 Deville 4.6 Northstar? The boss can't find the owners manual and it has GREEN colored coolant/antifreeze in the res. bottle so I am stumped........................... And of course no rad. cap to eyeball whats in there ! My 04 truck has the pink Dexcool and I thought all GMs after 96? use the pink Dexcool. I doubt its ever been added to or changed because I have had it from new. Any ideas?........TIA........geo 93 DeVille-13 Chevy Impala 72 GTO - 77 Triumph Bonneville 84 Z-28 Syracuse NY
JimD
There is a pressure cap on the reservoir. If the level in the reservoir is such that you can't see the color, roll up a piece of paper towel and dip it in there. And then hope it is not green. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. Ranger
Yeah, it should be orange Dex-cool.

If you are seeing green in the reservoir, then that is what is in the radiator and the entire system. Someone, somewhere, sometime has added something to turn it green, It was factory filled with Dex-Cool. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! JohnnyG
Have you ever taken it to a quick change oil place where they topped off all your fluids? Well guess what! Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.
JasonA
I thought all GMs after 96? use the pink Dexcool. That is correct -- all GM's after 1996 use Dexcool. Yours has had green coolant added to it. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?"
sonjaab
I know there is that universal stuff which is yellow (forgot the name). Its just the unknown because I can't tell what is actually in the system because their is no rad cap I can't look see . I know better than to mix the different kinds. Of course there has been FEET of snow in my area of NY so have been driving the truck and plow. The rest of my rides are on the winter sleep.................... Don't know if the cold weather has effected the DIC because I have been getting a low tire pressure warnings (all good) along with a low coolant msg. (res. full to marks)............. Haven't driven it too much lately! The odd colored coolant has me wondering.............. 93 DeVille-13 Chevy Impala 72 GTO - 77 Triumph Bonneville 84 Z-28 Syracuse NY

Air pressure will decrease as temps decrease and increase with temperature. I think the rate is about 1 psi per 10 degrees. Coolant is another story. You may have a problem there. Cadillac Jim
If you add coolant, add 50-50 DexCool and distilled water. WalMart and others carry distilled water for about 50 cents a gallon. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. I usually keep pre-mixed coolant on hand. You can either buy it premixed, or you can mix it yourself. Just get a gallon of coolant and a gallon of distilled water and fix yourself two gallons of 50/50. And then label it so you know what it is! It may sound like overkill to have that coolant on hand, but sure enough, when you don't keep it, that's when you'll need it. sonjaab
Thanks all...............I suppose as long as the weather breaks I will take off the upper hose and check the color of the antifreeze thats in there.................... If its green ............Hmmmmm If its pink/orange I will just drain the overflow/res. tank and refill with Deathcool............. Always had oil changed at the Caddy dealer or the little mechanic shop up the street. Them guys are sharp so I doubt they filled it with the wrong stuff............The Caddy dealer????????? They charge for EVERY extra (washer fluid, ps or trans. fluid etc.) and if they put in any antifreeze they would have noted it as well as charged for it! Can't kick because except for a oil change or 5 and a emission recall (PCM reflash) I haven't seen the dealer much at all except to drool over a XLR or a CTS V. But they have been great and will gladly hand over the keys IF they have a demo hanging out !!!!!!!!!! Not expecting to trade this Caddy soon. Only 45k miles and I like to run them to 100k plus miles !............geo 93 DeVille-13 Chevy Impala 72 GTO - 77 Triumph Bonneville 84 Z-28 Syracuse NY
