BodybyFisher
Yesterday, my car had a coating of ice on it so bad that I could hardly open the doors... without almost pulling the door handle off... So I finally go the door open, started the car and let it idle for about an hour with the heat on high and the defrosters on... Later in the day I noticed that I had two very obvious wet oil spots on the ground... Hmmmm Yes I have leaks but this is the first time I actually saw a bad leak....in one stop and I can only assume that I have a cooler line leaking while the car is running..... JasonA
Yeah, I would suspect a cooler line and/or oil filter adapter gasket. Does your '96 have a separate oil cooler? My '97 doesn't. kens96
Where are they in reference to location? I had a leak at the oil filter housing. Turned out to be the connection to the cooler had worked loose. The leak showed up under the radiator just a little off center towards the passenger side of the car. Left a spot 2-3 inhes in diameter.
adallak
Mike, A connection to a tranny cooliing line used to start leaking (just a few drops) every winter. I would tight the clamp up but the next winter the leak would reooccure. Looks like you have similar problem because of very cold weather. The problem is gone after I replaced all the cooling lines this summer. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent

Does my diagnosis sound correct? You call a few oil spots a bad leak! A few oil spots mean that it is leaking about 1 quart for 500 miles. That is from experience. What you have is just a nusiance. I call this problem a little above normal. Let us know where the spots are and we can help you pin point the problem. I would say you are headed in the right direction though. P.S. We have been talking about the dreaded case half leak lately though.
stsjoe
Mike, see if you can locate the leak by where it hits the ground, could be a line leak my Eldo had a bad leak (it left a trail!) was the line the runs in above the oil filter, just came loose
BodybyFisher
Hey are guys are great! Look at all the responses so fast... I will take a photo of my driveway in a few minutes and show you that its more than a few drops, idling it yesterday for an hour, created a spot about 6 inches round and one about 3 inches round... While I was driving today I get a scary thought that I recently heard that the case half can leak like this because of the seals that create an oil gallery.... Hope not.... I am really hoping for a cooler line problem.. Yes I have both oil cooler and tranny cooler lines that lead to my radiator... PAUL T
You are right that is a bad leak. You are talking 200 miles per quart now.
