'97 DeVille Broken Right Wiper Arm Connection

Recommended Posts

Hello All!

Well my daughter left the wipers on just before 18" of snow fell on

the DeVille. When I started the car, the wipers came up another 6"

and stopped.

I cleaned out the snow but it was too late...

The right wiper arm now lays free, no connection to anything!

She's still borrowing the car, so I couldn't check it out...

Is it possible it became disconnected, and not broken,

or should I start looking for parts now?

Please advise if you have any knowledge about the wiper system.

I could not get a look at it in the dark...

Thanks in advance..

Jim

I have seen this before try manually moving the wiper arm through its sweep it may snap into place. Mine did that on my 91, I think its a safety feature in case the wiper freezes to the windshield... Let us know

The wiper arm has probablly stripped on the post it bolts to, easy fix just replace the arm. The arm is made of Alm. and the post it bolts down on is steel with splines cut in it if the arm can't move it just stips to prevent breaking anything( I did the same thing 2 years ago)

Joe

PS. a temp. workaround is put a couple washers under the bolt and tighten it down

Jim thinking about this more, its possible that what I noted above was related to my wife's explorer and her mom's taurus..... Try it anyway, but Joe has direct experience with his caddy....

No Joe, my way of putting my tail between my legs when I made a mistake, you appear to be correct here...

The more I thought about it, after I read your post, I realized that the trick I described above was on a FORD...

Thanks you gentlemen!

I will try to get to the car this weekend since the temp is supposed to go up to an amazing

26 degrees F. Haven't seen that is weeks!
