I changed my oil about 1500 miles ago and my change oil soon light still goes on when I start my car. Anyone Know how I can reset that? I have a 1993 Deville. ALSO I need to get a new cat for my car, mine starting to smell like egg salad Im looking at universal Cats, Im not sure what Inlet size I need. I figure when i take it to the muffler shop for the cat Im gonna put a flomaster 80 crossflow muffler on there too. Again whats my pipe size?

If you hold down the "RANGE" & "FUEL USED" together, the Fuel Data Center will display the oil life index in percentage from 0-100, 0 meaning that it is time to change the oil and 100 meaning you just changed it. To reset it, hold down the "RANGE" & "RESET" buttons together for about a minute and then when you release them, the "CHANGE OIL SOON" light will flash 4 times indicating the system has been reset. If the lamp comes on steady for a few seconds, it means that you didn't reset the system properly and you have to do it again.

Since Im already 1500 miles into the oil If I reset it now, will it be all out of whack? Ill just wait till the next time I change, thanks. Also I really need new Catalytic converter:) I Found this on Ebay will it work? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-Catalytic...1QQcmdZViewItem

beefy, if you don't get an answer here regarding your catalytic converter (I don't happen to know your pipe size), your exhaust shop does this kind of work all the time. They can procure the proper universal catalytic converter for you and weld it right in. They should also be able to advise you on the proper muffler dimensions.

Are you sure it's not the gas giving you that sulphur smell. Some gas is worse than others I've noticed. Try another station (Shell Premium maybe) for your next fill-up and see if that makes a difference.

Don't assume that your CAT is bad, a rich mixture can also cause that egg smell. This is a 4.9? Two or three times I had an egg smell with my 91 4.9 just briefly. Check for codes related to fuel trim and O2 sensors. Epriced brings up a good point also.

See this link:

The procedure to reset you OLM is in your owners manual. Yes it will be off a little bit because you have 1500 miles just change it earlier then.

Well I have no codes. When I got the car the sulfur smell tipped me off alittle, but it was very infrequent, under eavy accel, and even then only some times. I frequent many different stations, so i dont think its the brand. I changed the o2 sensor and the fuel filter, my injectors are next, but the cat is cheaper. I also have HORRIBLE gas mileage, I thought I might be having a sticking caliper piston... But I did the break work myself this last time. And the egg smell is getting progressively worse, and my car's idle is a bit twitchy too. Here is my original post http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=10901

Im fairly certain its my cat. I dont wanna get a cat through the muffler shop because I dont want to get hosed. I can find the cat cheaper on ebay. Thanks for all the imput guys.

Sounds to me like you know EXACTLY what it is, the CAT, replace it an let us know how you do....

I tend to disagree, this is either a bad FPR or dirty injectors leaking or not metering properly, I would eliminate those first.

Factor in what you said, HORRIBLE GAS MILEAGE. I had a bad cat that restricted exhaust on my Monte Carlo, it sapped power badly.

You have no codes, no O2, no fuel trim, etc.

If I pull the vacuum line on the FPR and look for gas in the line... and there is no gas, does that mean for Certain the FPR is still good? As far as the injectors go, theyre pretty pricey, If I get them cleaned will that fix any leaky injectors? Or is my problem most likely shorted injectors. And if you were asking my if Im sure about the codes, I am. When I go into diagnostic mode all I get is 0.7.0, which im pretty sure is "End of codes"

The '93 OBDI is the same as the '94, correct? I've never seen 0.7.0.

I would consider replacing it, it could be an intermittant problem and if you can pick up the fuel rail, turn on the key and see if any injectors leak when the fuel system is pressurized. I feel strongly that you are getting an over fueling condition. I am surprised you are not setting a code however although a FPR does not set a code. A bad CAT should also set a code.

What engine do you have a 4.9? Your on board computer is different than what I experienced from my 91 Seville. Kevin (KHE) I believe is familiar with it.

Yea 4.9. When I first got the car I got a code for the ISC. When I went to autozone to look up the codes the printout they gave me said that 0.7.0 Means end of code list. And Voltage lost. I replaced the battery(Old one was all bloated) and the ISC. Checked for codes and nada. I check periodically and most recently was 2 days ago, Still nothing. I might as well replace the FPR anyway huh its only like 40 bucks at rock auto

First off, you want to look for fuel leaking from the nipple, not necassarily in the line as it will be sucked into the manifold. 99% of the time no fuel leaking means a good FPR. That said, there was a guy I talked to on Cadillacforums that was having classic FPR symptoms (hard hot starts). FPR checked out ok. I suggested that he add vacuum to it with a hand held vacuum pump. Sure enough, it would not hold vacuum. He replaced teh FPR and all was well. Obviously the hole in the diaphram was just begining and very small.

Today I checked the FPR I didnt see any gas on the nipple. I looked inside the nipple as best I could but its small, and kinda at a bad angle. I didnt see any moisture. I unbolted the fuel rail but I couldt get the fuel injectors un seated I think the fuel lines we preventing me from moving it enough. Should I just assume I need new injectors?

No, injectors are usually pretty reliable, not to mention pricey. I would not be replacing them unless I knew for sure that they are bad and then only the ones that are bad.

Pull the vacuum hose off the FPR and start the car and see if it spits fuel. Also, Ranger said you can use a hand vacuum pump with gage and see if it holds vacuum..

I don't know your engine will enough to help you with the fuel rail.

When I start my car is sounds like I have a performance cam in there. I doubt the car has been tuned up in 20000 miles. I found a set of 8 injectors for 300 online fiveomotorsports.com. Ill see if the FPR spits anything, Autozone didnt have a vacuum pump i could borrow. New: I Started my car this evening to grab some food and I noticed some white smoke coming out of my tail pipe, after about a block of driving it went away, But I noticed at about 1500-2000 RPM My engine sounds like a truck. This is a new sound, I dont think its the main bearing thump I was having.
