Northstar swap feasable?

I found a website selling remanufactured cadillac motors. I ran across a 93-94 northstar crate for 1200. When and if my cars heart finally gives how feasable is it to swap out the 4.9 for one of the northstars. Im thinking tranny too. I suppose it would be too much to hope for motor mounts and electronics to match up would it? What tranny could/should I use the original tranny is in decent shape but its not aggressive enough when shifting for me. Anyone had this done or know anything about it Id love to hear from you.

We've discussed this subject several times. Unfortunately, the consensus is that swapping a 4.9 for a Northstar is not feasible. Like you said the electronics and everything else involved makes it difficult to impossible. You would need harnesses, the PCM, proper transaxle, etc. If you really want a Cadillac with a Northstar I suggest you check ebay—Chances are you will find a good deal.

I would imagine that if you were Jesse James or Coddington, you could do it as long as you had a PILE of money. I dont know if the NS carriage would even fit physically into a 93 Deville. Realize that all of the electronics would need to be transferred over. The PCM also is looking for certain modules that you probably wont be able to change over like ABS, Suspension, etc to name a few.

An old sage once said, its not worth the trouble, just buy a car with the NS in it already that has been well kept and well maintained.

Well i figured itd be maybe 4k and I get to keep the body style I love, and have a new powerful engine. Ah well. My cars body is darn near new condition too. I could spend 4k on a northstar vehicle but itd probably have around 100k miles on it. you think its be worth it then just to put in a remanufactured 4.9 with a rebuild transaxle?

Why does this thread sound like deja vu to me?

If you want to keep your car, that is your only option if you ask me. But for $4000 plus the sale of your existing car for say $1000 you could buy a nice car if you are patient. Save longer and buy what you want, keep driving it and save.

Someone was telling me on here that you can put Allante heads on your 4.5/4.9 motor..

That would make it shift at 5500 instead of 4500 I think that's what they said.

There's no way in all of heck you'll end up with a NS powered car for $4000 unless you go out and buy one that comes with it..

One guy on here says he can get good 4.9s for $500

I remember seeing a website for a guy who was selling Cadillac 4.9 engines that he bored to 5.0 that supposedly made 270Hp and 315 lb ft or torque. I can't find the website anymore but I wll do some more searching.
