Clean out cowl air intake

Recommended Posts

Everyday, I go out to my car and its covered with leaves. The leaves end up in the cowl air intake area by the windshield wipers.

Last year, I was getting my AC charged. The tech said that he changes many evaporators because they are clogged with sedement from leaves dirt, etc. This clogs the evaporator and reduces air flow through it. In addition, the leaves retain moisture, rot and cause mildue and contribute to corrosion and bad smells due to retaining dampness.

Everyday, I clean out the cowl area of leaves and I would advise keeping that area free of leaves..

Obviously if you have a garage, this is not a problem for you..

Good tip about cleaning out the leaves I clean off the top of the air drag vents on the cowl every now & then I already had a problem with leaves they worked their way into the blower fan and had to clean them out I thought the fan was cracked until I opened the area up and found it all funky with leaves and dirt. It sure made noise when you put the blower on high after cleaning it out it worked fine.

That's good advice.... and even if you have a garage, you might park outside at work and get leaves all over your car, as I do.....

Let me add that the leaves get ground up into small pieces by wind buffeting them around and the debris falls through or filters through the grating above the HVAC unit ends up a fine mix clogging the evaporator. I think there is a cleaner that can be flushed down into that area that can clean it up, if I recall. I just used my shop vac today to suck all of the leaves out... Mike
