In my tests, a cone filter did not help on the NS.

I did not test a volante intake for the NS. to answer your question, I would vote Yes, get the Volante if you are willing to test it and see how it does before/after.

While I'm not a fan of aftermarket intake stuff, including aftermarket filters, considering all the exhaust work you've done, you're probably a good candidate to see an objective improvement from complementing that with an intake setup. You may not see anything, it's hard to tell.

Just make sure that the thing comes fully shielded (from heat and water) and that all the stock sensors are retained. If you can get objective measurements before and after, that would help to document its effectiveness.

Maybe I am confused about this CAI thing. The stock air intake is over the PCM and draws air from behind the left headlight or in that vicinity. It is not drawing hot under hood air. How much "colder" can you get? Am I missing something?

Ranger

you are right for this type car

it is all ready setup for this type of effect

but with a perfect fit air tight box, from that point of view

you are right

Thanks!!!!! :)

In my perception, "CAI" (or Cold Air Intake) is a term that has been generalized over time to include pretty much anything with a cone air filter, which is often the exact opposite of a "cold air intake". When one normally installs a cone filter in the engine compartment, it's hard to fully shield that from engine/radiator heat, which is why the factory boxes are hard to beat. I found that out myself when I did my K&N air filter, and I only left it on there for about two weeks before I switched back.

Having said that, some of the better intake kits DO include almost a complete air box these days, which WOULD shield the filter from hot underhood air. I guess their claim to fame in those cases is using a "better" filter than stock (I disagree) and a "better" intake tube for lower restriction (ehh, maybe).

I always have a hard time believing that the strange filters are as good as oem filters.. I had considered fitting my car with two factory filters for more air but it was too much work so I went in the house and watched Green Acres instead.
