Deville window regulator problems

Hi all,

I was wondering if there is a service bulletin, or if anyone else has had a problem with their window regulators failing? I have a 2002 Deville DTS, and friday evening my wife rolled the drivers window down, only to hear a loud bang and it would not roll back up. I have already removed the door panel and found the plastic piece that holds onto a small cylindrical metal keeper broken. This car is only 4 years old and the plastic is cracked like it could be 30 years old. If anyone has had this type failure, or possibly knows a website I could surf to find the specific GM part number for the piece I need it would be greatly appreciated. I need to get the car back together before I return to work on Wednesday.

Thanks, Millwright71

If you need the part right away, I would go to your local Cadillac dealer parts desk and ask them. You can email gmotors.com and they will often do a parts lookup for you, but then you would have to wait on the part to arrive.

Hi All,

Just to answer some of my own questions for the benefit of future readers. I subscribed to Alldata to get the service bulletins for my car. It appears that there was a problem with the window regulators failing due to high heat conditions. Obviously with my car being black on black that is the case. The dealer replacement part number is 10393236 and can be had on gmpartsdirect.com for about $95.00. The door panels are relatively easy to get off and the regulator comes out easily as well.

As always, I am very happy with this site as a source of reference, and will continue to browse here often. Hopefully my post will help someone in the future.

Thanks, Millwright71

The problem you described is fairly common with 2000 and newer DeVilles. There have been dozens of posts on this board regarding this problem. Some have had success repairing the broken plastic mounts, but for the most part, a replacement is in order. I would be interested to know what the part number you list is for, as it sounds pretty cheap for a window regulator. The Cadillac dealerships replace the whole regulator when they diagnose this problem, and the part alone is over $300.00, plus 2.5 hours labor. I know there is a site on e-bay that sells replacement regulators on an exchange basis for around $160.00. I believe they are rebuilt. The sad part is that this probably is not the last one you will have to replace. I have had two go already in my 2001 DTS and haven't even bothered replacing the rear one, since I seldom carry rear seat passengers.

I call them the 'pop and drop' windows. 3 of mine have done it. Typically it will happen on the hottest day of the year..

Yes, it is failure of the plastics where it grabs the cable.

Get the regulator out. Spray carb cleaner on the plastic area. Then use Devcon and puddle in new plastic.
