90vtwin
Yesterday night lifted the front of the car (both left and right), turned the wheels to the left and took of the left front rotor (I am preparing to do the wheel hub replacement, as I am getting TCS C1225 code and pulsating feeling when turning at speed) Left the keys in the car, but took them slightly out, to make sure the ignition was off This morning, I hear noises 'boom boom boom'. Go into my garage, they are coming from the car's speakers. Security light is on, radio cannot be turned on or off. The car does not start... I do not know when those noises started for sure. I took the battery out that according to the previous owner's label was replaced april this year, and plugged into my charger/tester. It shows 11.3 v and charge capacity 18%. So I started charging now at 2A (slow charge) and then will try to reconnect and see what happens. So far it went quickly to 62% and now is sitting at 62 for 30 min and not moving (I have a computer controlled charger) In the mean time two question: what should be the battery capacity/Amps for this car and second: is there a way to test/see if alternator is OK (I did not get any codes, except C1225 when I checked them yesterday evening before lifting the front) Thanks in advance
Cadillac Jim
It sounds to me like somebody got in the car and turned on the radio. With the door held open, the security system will eventually go off and lock everything out. Everything may be OK when you put the battery back. I wouldn't assume that your battery is bad, or that there is a problem with the alternator. I would try it and see if there is a problem before I bought anything. Others may chime in with experiences similar to yours and tell you more. I don't know what the battery capacity is. I always put the highest available capacity battery in any replacement. For my Cadillac, there are only two choices -- really big, and biggest cold cranking amps (I don't recall the numbers). I would get the OEM Delco battery recommended for your make and model; that will mean you get the "really big" capacity. I haven't had that good of luck in other makes of battery. One thing to watch if you get an aftermarket battery: don't get a "universal" with both top posts and side posts. My car has radiator-to-fender braces as chassis stiffeners that must be unbolted to get the battery in and out (1998 and later Sevilles don't have them). I don't belive that your 1999 DeVille will have them. Top terminal battery posts would contact my braces. Even if your model doesn't have the braces, top terminals are a disaster waiting to happen. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars.
