chazglenn3
Well, my wife and I flew to Chicago last weekend to attend my aunt and uncle's 50th wedding anniversary celebration. When we get home, my 20yr old son says "I had to use your car to take Jasmine (12yr old daughter) to her friend's house, and it started making a noise". So, I go out, fire it up and promptly hear what sounds like one of the valves banging!! Oh well, I guess when I get this fixed, it should take care of the lifter noise, too. Might as well add in the half case oil leak, too. Of course, this is petty sniveling when compared to Warren's situation, but sucks anyway. BodybyFisher
My Dad's Caddy's always had strange noises after I drove them when I was 20 years old In one instance the engine mount cut loose and ripped a hole in the radiator in an other the tranny blew..... chazglenn3
The noise is so loud and scary that I don't think it is cold carbon rap. Isn't that a more subtle noise? I actually drove the car until it warmed up as the noise originally came and went, but finally came and stayed. This sounds very mechanical. When it first started to make the noise, I thought about a couple of WOT's, but then remembered reading a post on the other forum I believe, where someone was experiencing a similar noise and wound up blowing the motor up doing WOT's, so I am a little worried about trying it. The noise is as loud as hitting the motor with a hammer would be if you were really swinging hard. The tow truck driver (I shut it down and had it towed home) listened to it and said "that is a valve", but he is a tow truck driver, not a mechanic. Ranger
Yeah, that does not sound like cold carbon rap, but does sound serious. I would definately not WOT it. A stethescope would help in locating it.
BodybyFisher
How does the engine idle and drive through the range, does it feel like you have a mis? chazglenn3
No, it doesn't seem to be missing. The idle is fairly smooth except for the racket. I had a friend stop by today, so I asked him to listen to it. His immediate reply was "that sounds like a connecting rod to me". I bought an extended warranty shortly after I bought the car, but can't make a claim within the first 90 days. I guess I will wait until the end of the month and contact the warranty company. Sadly, they have a $3300 limit on engine repairs, but at least that is $3300 I shouldn't have to spend. Charles Charles
BodybyFisher
If that is the case, I would not start it again.. Drop the oil and filter it through a nylon stocking or fine mesh to see if you have any metallic debris. chazglenn3
Should I just leave it alone and wait to file a warranty claim, or go ahead and drain the oil? It seems to me that it is probably wiser to leave it alone for now. Charles Charles
