e39dream
hi- My good friends deville 1998 will not start. the batt. was never fully dead, but we charged the battery with a 6amp trickle charger back to full charge. the car will turn over fine, smell fuel. has over 1/4 tank of 93 octane. I looked under the hood at the wires to see if there was arcing, there was not. we have found this forum helpful in the past regarding the dreaded starter disabled ordeal, and appreciate any help you guys can offer on this. Ironically the car is in my yard, in the very same spot that it did the starter disabled thing before. That was remedied by new ignition switch and key- a big pain that took several trips to the dealer to get straight.

If it is a strong smell under the hood it may be the Fuel Pressure Regulator or a leaky injector. I would start there. Have you checked the on-board diagnostic codes? Ranger
Put an ear the open fuel filler pipe. Do you hear the fuel pump running for 2-3 seconds after key on? If so, check the fuel pressure. If not, check the fuel pump relay.
