steve6
anyone wired up one of these generation sts's for a trailer? I dont get how to wire it... its f***ed up cause its got the yellow tail light, so the signal and brake lights dont work proper!(compared to traditional cars where the signals are the brakes as well)... If anyone has done it , could you please tell me how? Is there a special module or certain way to wire it? I went to get the wiring harness to plug into the harness at crappy tire, but they only had the deville, not seville... Thanks!
JimD
I would bet someone makes a high-dollar module to do that. Personally, I would add dedicated amber turn signal lamps to the trailer. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
steve6
Adding deticated signals is not a good answer, there is muliple trailers(boat, utility, snowmbile), or trailers that I dont own, that I might tow!
stefank
Steve6, although we in Europe don't have this problem, I think the wiring you see in the attachment should solve your problem. It's low tech... It shows one side, so you'll have to repeat the wiring on the other side. You'd need (for both sides): - 4 relays with a "normally closed" contact, that means the contact is closed with no voltage supplied to the coil, and opens if it gets voltage to the coil. They should not cost more than US$ 5 each. - 4 Diodes capable of handling about 5 Amps each. You can get these at any electronics store for about 50 cents apiece. These prevent "backflow" of current. It is important to install them in the correct direction. The relays will click anytime you use the flasher/brake, so put them in the trunk near the rear lights so they won't disturb you. With this arrangement, If you'd push the brakes wile flashing, the light/dark phase of the car will be contrary to the trailer, i.e. if the car's turn signal lights up, the trailer will be off and vice versa. Hope I could make myself clear, it's not so easy for me in english. Let me know if this makes no sense for you and I'll try to explain better. Perhaps someone has a more sophisticated solution? You need a trailer light module/converter/isolator - Draw-Tite makes one and you can find them for around $40 or so.
