mike33
Hello, can anybody tell me how to reset the tire pressure sensors on a 2002 Deville DHS? I had the tires rotated recently, and things just don't seem correct. Thanks in Advance! Owners manual says "special tool required" @#$%
JimD
Resetting TPM Use a fairly strong horseshoe style magnet. 1) Ignition ON. 2) Press LOCK + UN-LOCK key fob buttons until the horn chirps. 3) Starting with LF tire, hold the magnet against valve stem until horn chirps. Then RF, then RR, then LR. After LR, horn will chirp twice to indicate programming is complete. There is a timer running that allows 1 minute between wheels and 5 minutes total elapsed time. mike33
Jim, thanks for these excellent directions. I haven't done this yet because I don't have a magnet. Is there any other method possible? If not, where can I buy one of these magnets? Tks!
JimD
Another method involves the dealer and a Tech II device plus $$$. Sources of magnets are your better hardware stores (like we used to see pre-Home Depot), Radio Shack, radar repair shops (magnetron tubes), craft and hobby stores, plus many others that I will remember several hours from now. I will edit my procedure description to eliminate the horseshoe part. Any shape and size magnet that will fit in the valve stem area and touch the stem will work fine. Be sure to hold the magnet in place until the horn chirps; this can take 3 to 5 seconds. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! mike33
Jim, I think I screwed up. I now have "service tire monitor" on the dash and I can't get the LF to beep. Now all the readings for the pressures are blank "__" Any suggestions other than taking to the dealer? Also, I ran the codes and they were current rac or roc I can't recall, but I think there were four codes like that. Hope you can help. Tks! JimD
Hard to imagine how you could mess it up too bad. Sounds like the system is stuck in reset mode and is waiting for you to do the next wheel. What are the exact codes? I don't know if this will work or not; I guess we find out together. Disconnect the battery negative cable for an hour or so. Connect the battery terminal and try the reset procedure again. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! Did you by chance have any of the tires dismounted when you had them rotated? Like for having a leak fixed? If so they probably damaged the sensor inside the wheel like they did on mine a few weeks ago. The tire shop should replace it for you if they dismounted the tire. mike33
Problem Fixed! It turns out my magnet wasn't powerful enough, so I could never get past the LF to beep. When I was at Farm and Fleet buying a magnet I figured if I have to remove the rear seat cushion to disconnect the neg, why not just replace the battery in the process. It was about five years old anyway. Hot tip: Blain's Farm and Fleet has the correct battery with the vent holes for $50 some dollars with trade. Details: 880 CCA, 84 month Platinum series, with two or three year free replacement (can't remember which) This battery is manufactured by Johnson Controls, so you're good to go. Thank you both, gentlemen, for your help. Mike
Ranger
If I don't stop in F & F at least once a month they file a missing persons report. Didn't realize they had the battery we need. I have yet to need a replacement but it is good to know. Thanks for the tip.
