epricedright
I just read a post that prompted me to ask basically the same question. My radio does not turn off after turning the ignition off, I get no buzzer to remind me my keys are still in the ignition after opening the driver door, the interior light does not come on when I open the driver door, and maybe some other related things that I can't recall. My driver side door locks also do not work using the interior lock/unlock button or the remote, but I'm thinking that is unrelated to the other problems. I'm hoping the lock problem is my lock actuator, for which I already have the part. The other poster mentioned a module? Could that be it? What module would control those things and where is it located? I was hoping to have taken my door panels off by now to fix my door locks and see if any wires are loose that might tell this module that the door is open, but haven't done so yet. Come to think of it, my radio used to stay on after turning the ignition off, but would turn off after opening the door...not any more. Is there some type of switch (magnetic maybe?) in the door that tells the (module?) whether the door is open or not? This problem has been going on too long to ignore anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cadillac Jim
Sounds like the door-open switch to me. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. stefank
My guess is that it has to do with the door. Given that you also got problems with the power lock on the driver's door, it may be the wiring where it passes from the door to the A-post. Maybe some wires are broken. Sometimes they brake inside the insulation and you don't see it, the best check would be to use some resistance-checking device on each wire. As Jim already mentioned, it could be the door-open switch too. AFAIK, this is part of the door lock mechanism. Do you have the FSM with the wiring layout? That would be helpful to identify the correct wires. Best Stefan
Cadillac Jim
A troubleshooting chart for "All courtesy lamps inoperative only with LH front door open" on page 8A-114-22 goes: Disconnect the LH front door jamb switch connector Connect a fused jumper between the LH front door jamb switch connector terminals A (tan) and D (BLK/WHT). Do courtesy lamps light? YES -- Replace the LH front door jamb switch. NO: Check CKT 126 (TAN) for an open. Check CKT 51 (BLK/WHT) for an open between S201 and the LH front door jamb switch. If OK, replace the body control module (PZM). The LH Front Door Jamb Switch is on the driver's door on the door latch assembly. In the diagram on page 8A-201-45, figure 83, it looks like a magnet-actuated reed switch, like a house security system window switch, above the latch itself; on my 1997 Eldorado all that is inside the door as part of the latch. Splice S201 is the wire breakout on the harness under the instrument panel to the left of the driver's seat, one inch above the ground wire that bolts to the door frame (see page 8A-201-23, figure 44). The Circuit 126 tan wire goes to the PZM module and is the sense line for the body control module (page 8A-51-4). The Circuit 51 black/white wire is the ground (page 8A-114-0). If the courtesy lights come on when you use the key in the driver's door, that ground is OK and you need to look at the tan wire and the connection through the grommet in the door jamb (page 8A-201-43 Figure 79, P500). The door jamb switch is closed with the door open, so the voltage at the tan wire should be zero (grounded) with the door open. If you see voltage on the black/white wire, the ground is open; if that is grounded and you see voltage on the tan wire, the switch is bad. The Power Door Locks schematic on page 8A-130-2 shows that the door lock actuators for all doors are on the same power and ground. I would check the connector for the driver's door, the tan (power) and gray (ground) wires. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. epricedright
Thanks Jim and Stefank. I will look in my FSM and see if the above is the same. I looked briefly in there before, but couldn't find anything helpful. I'm sure I wasn't looking in the right sections. That FSM is still intimidating for me at times, being 2 volumes thick.
