2003 W/dreded P0741

SES lite pops up and I run down the codes and P0741, a bit of research to find that torque converter clutch stuck off. Am I in for a 2k bill at the dealership? I thought these tranny's were bullit proof. No recall? I just bought the car, upgraded from a 97 Eldo. Does the chug feel like a bad CV? Or do I need to look at that too. I still love the car she may just need some work. Anybody with some advice I will sure listen.

Thanks,

Chris

First occurence I have seen for this code in '98+ vehicle. Before you do anything else, clear the code and drive. Repeat several times. Any other P codes get set at the same time?

I have the dreaded p0741 code also along with the p1860 in my 2002 STS. But there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with the tranny. It shifts smoothly and all gears work. Ive been told on this forum that i just might have a wiring problem. You mentioned some chugging, then you might have an issue with your tranny. I know if you take it to the dealer they will most likely tell you that you will need another tranny. Wish i could be of more help but i still havent had time to ck out my tranny codes. Please keep us updated.

I am another 2002 Seville owner with the P0741 code. I have had it for about 10 months or so. It doesn't seem to affect the driveability of the car, so I just leave it alone. It is a PITA to constantly have the SES light on though.

A P1860 is a transmission component slipping code...Never seen it on a 4T80-E trans though...I have a fellow Caddy tech that I am good friends with and I will ask him. The only other issues I have seen with the 4T80-E is a shift valve code, don't remember now,but the shift valve from GM came with a bracket and instructions on how to install it. The hydraulic shift valve in the valve body would pop back and break the electric solenoid. The P1860 code only tells you that there is a difference in input speed and output speed in any selected gear. It's a possibility that the failed ISS code is causing the P1860. One of the caddy models you can cheat and lower the left side of the cradle down far enough to remove the side cover and change out the ISS,and I don't remember which one it is.

And before I get flamed  I did not read the origional post...I thought it was an ISS code :( ! I will check on line with GM, and see if there are any bulletins.

And yes...There is a bulletin on that P0741...And the transaxle has to come out to repair it. A dealer has the bulletin on it...The transaxle does NOT have to be rebuilt. Do you feel a surge or chuggle when driving?

Al, we are not much into flaming around here, otherwise I would be a cinder! Not to worry about flaming, the flamer will be shut down quickly... We are interested in your input... I currently have a failed ISS, P0717 current but I dont see slipping yet, are you saying above that a failed ISS can cause slipping? Is it NOT advised that I drive my car with a CURRENT ISS P0717 code, my understanding was that it will use vehicle speed to estimate line pressure and it will drop out of OD... Thanks, Mike

As soon as I gather the parts and equipment I am going to drop my carriage and fix it..

I only get the chuggle while cornering which made me think CV joint, the shifts are smooth and I never had the P1860. Is there hope?
