Power seat shorted to ground?

I had my 92 Eldo at a mechanic about a month ago trying to get my I034 fixed(that never happened they were idiots) anyways while my car is there the RKE, power door locks, power windows, power seats, and horn quit working. They actually let me have the car back like this without fixing it, anyways the mechanic tells me that the power seat motor has shorted to ground so he has it unhooked. About two days ago I got tired of not having a power seat so I hooked it back up and nothing yet has happened. Is it possible for this problem to happen intermittently or was the mechanic just trying to screw me. He did show me the circuit breaker that was blown and it was almost blown apart.

It sounds like you are losing ground by using this mechanic. I have heard of mechanics keeping around spectaculary blown parts to show to customers; how do you know that the circuit breaker that he showed you was from your car, or even a Cadillac?

There are a lot of good mechanics out there. You can spot them by the cluster of fine, later-model cars in their customer lot, and the cars turn over 100% every two or three days. Danger signs are old or partly dismantled cars that don't change or go away in a few days, or the lack of later-moldel cars in good condition. Look for certification of key mechanics on the shop office wall. You can find good and bad mechanics at filling stations, Goodyear Service Centers, Pep Boys Service Centers, mall department store service centers, etc. If the cars in the customer lot look good, talk to the service manager about your problem, and ask a mechanic who he designates as good on your car about OBD II codes. Any mechanic that doesn't use OBD codes is over 30 years out of date and shouldn't work on modern cars. Look for a happy, intelligent, certified mechanic who looks you in the eye and talks to your face. Avoid those who appear to be composing speeches while looking at the wall, or who look at you with a suppressed Cheshire Cat smile, or who seem to have no facial expression at all.

Yea these guys were total idiots, I am currently disputing the $800 they charged to diagnose my I034 problem, when I don't think they even took the dash apart or looked at the car. I fixed the problem with a little common knowledge, an FSM and a $50 PCM. I am still puzzled as to how they made the problem happen after I got the car back but I would guess they just loosened up a ground or something and caused this to happen. Oh well, if anyone is in Tucson AZ stay away from Majestic Automotive they are liars and cheats.
