cadillacrazy
I have found a used engine (a '94) to swap into my '93 Eldorado Touring Coupe, but I want to be sure that it is the correct one. I have not seen it in person yet, but was read off the following numbers from the block by the current owner: 2FU209955. Is this correct? is this even the right number to reference to? thanks, Carolyn
MAC
The number looks to be the engine unit number, which is located on the end surface of the cam cover. This number will not provide the necessary information to identify the engine. If the engine is a Northstar, a derivative of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) will be located on a plate on the engine block in front of the transaxle extension, which is visible if the engine is on a hoist. The plate is located on the left side rear on the engine block. In other words, if you are in front of the car looking at the hood it will be on your left side (passenger side or the same side as the serpentine belt) on the bottom of the block facing the firewall near the crankshaft pulley). At least this is what I see from my 1994 GM factory Service Manual (Figures 3, 4 and 5, p. 0A-3). The VIN number from the plate located on the dashboard of the car the engine came from will also provide the information needed to identify the engine. However, it would be best to get both the VIN off the dash and from the engine block and double check to make sure.
Bob D
** Take this one step further..If the VIN code for the engine has a "9" it's a 300 HP N*,which would be the correct match for you ETC. If the VIN has a "Y", it's the 275 hp N*., which would not be correct for your application. The number looks to be the engine unit number, which is located on the end surface of the cam cover.
