jims93sts
Hi guys! I have a 93 STS and have noticed that lately after I deive the car and pull it into the garage there is a collant leak when the motor is turned off. I realize that most motors get hotter when turned off ,but shouldn't the over flow tank catch the the collant? thanks for any help
adallak
Overflow is engaged only when your cooling system does not wors as it's supposed to do. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
GreenMachine
Which area is the coolant leak coming from? When my waterpump went it usually only leaked when the engine was off and lost pressure from cooling, and even then it wasn't much, but got progressivly worse. The leak seems to be getting bigger (not alot) but more fluid is on the garage floor. It has original EVERYTHING ,even the plugs and wires are original. would you suggest a new radiator cap for the over flow tank?? thanks
BodybyFisher
I believe your 93 has a tank that is part of the cooling system, it is not considered an overflow tank, its pressurized with radiator pressure (about 16 PSI). Its possible that your tank is cracked, cap is releasing pressure, your heater pipes are corroded, hoses are cracked, clamps are loose, water pump leaking, the radiator plastic end tanks can leak, etc. Try to locate where the leak is coming from to help us with recommending what it might be. Ranger
The system will expell excess coolant if you are overfilled. Do you have about a 2" air space at the top? Just a thought.
thu
Are you able to pinpoint where the leak is? That would tell us if you need a new cap, surge tank, hoses, etc. 2003 Seville STS 43k miles with the Bose Sound, Navigation System, HID Headlamps, and MagneRide 1993 DeVille. jims93sts
Are you able to pinpoint where the leak is? That would tell us if you need a new cap, surge tank, hoses, etc. hey fellows, haven't been able to pin point where the leak is.....I'm not much of a mechanic ,but I did check the level of fluid in the over flow and it is about 2 inches below the top. It's funny because it doesn't leak while idling in the driveway, just seems to leak when you turn it off. I bought the STS about 3 years ago and each year after reading in this forum I did a radiator flush and filled with fresh anti freeze and always have crusded the GM pellets up in a baggie and then added them to the system. I have done this once a year just to be safe. tahnsk to all who have replyed so far and I hope I get this thing figured out soon! jimsSTS
