FlamingGoatBalls
[attachmentid=2736]They are Morse Friction Grip plus. Not sure what the adhesive metal plates are. Do they look too cheap to use?

Bruce Nunnally
Don't see a lot of info; apparently Autozone carries them. Brake pads don't strike me as an excellent place to economize however. The last set of brake pads I remember buying had a lifetime free replacement guarantee from an O'Reilly automotive store. As in, if they wear out before the car does, bring them back. Bruce 2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Follow me on: Twitter Instagram Youtube
FlamingGoatBalls
What are the metal backings for? Seems to me like the adhesive wouldnt hold. Im not too particular about my pads so I dont need anything special. I just dont want anything that is so cheap that it will fall apart on me. Ranger
The metal backings are anti squeal plates. Squeal comes from a vibration set up between the back of the pad and the caliper. Those are supposed to minimize or eliminate it.
Bruce Nunnally
Those could be the "OE style constraint layer shims included at no charge " I see this advice: "If the brake pad you choose does not come with shims pre-installed, make sure you buy a set and install them onto the back of the pads before installing them. Shims usually come with a small piece of double sided tape that allows it to stick to the back of the brake pad." here: http://www.grandprix.net/brakes/brakepad.html Bruce 2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Follow me on: Twitter Instagram Youtube

My guess would be the plates are supposed to be an anti-squeal. The old disc brakes used to come with an adhesive you would smear on the back of the pad to reduce brake squeal. If I were you, I would return them and buy either OEM pads or Raybestos Quiet Stop Ceramics (those are what I used last). But that is JMHO. Rockauto.com will have a set of pads at your door next day and will only charge regular shipping - atleast that's how fast they were for me. I wouldn't trust them if they are from Autozone. Their better pads come with a lifetime warranty, but I feel they sell those as a marketing ploy to attract the backyard mechanics to buy them so those mechaics can make more money on labor, when they need replacing. I had a mechanic that was working on my mini-van and he always used their brakes, and they wouldn't last long at all. I finally learned he was a waste of my time. My dog just tossed his cookies while I was typing this - reason my reply was so slow.
